A worn CV joint will make a clicking/ snapping noise when under load and in turns. I've seen a few instances where the intermediate shaft would make a muffled clunking noise, but this will typically occur on turns over bumps and can also typically be reproduced when not moving just by making small amplitude jerks of the steering wheel in either direction. |

Could be a fender liner contacting a tire or even a zip-tie rubbing a rack boot. I even had one car where someone decided it would be a good idea to bend the retaining tabs on the brake hoses, causing the hose springs to catch on the side splash shields when the steering wheel was turned. Also, with the car safely in park with emergency brake applied, put your head under the dash and turn the wheel back and forth. Does the noise seem to be coming from inside? May be the intermediate shaft as described above. Unfortunately, I won't be able to answer with any certainty because this problem could be caused by any number of things. If unable to locate the issue yourself, you'll need to find a mechanic qualified to do the diagnosis. |
