Questions about installing remote starter in 2003 Santa Fe.
 
I receive a Design Tech International remote car starter (early Christmas
present) for my 2003 Santa Fe. I've downloaded the updated manual and tech
information from the manufacturer's web site, and as was looking for some
information prior to installation.



This model, 23927, supports several extra features like remote door locks,
basic alarm system, etc. However, being that it's about 5 degrees F
outside, and I don't have a well heated garage, I'm planning on just
installing it to do the basic starting and save the "bells and whistles" for
warmer weather. The extras already exist with the factory remote, but it
would be nice not to have to keep both remotes.



Basically, this unit uses relays to simulate the turning of the key in the
ignition. The manufacturer has a wiring color code for the Santa Fe on
their web site that shows which wires correspond to their designations of
"ignition 1", "ignition 2", etc.



On their color chart for the Santa Fe, it shows the following wiring colors
in the ignition switch harness:

Blue - live in "run" and "start" positions

Pink - live in "run". May or may not be live in "start"

Green- live in "accessory" and "run" modes



(I am planning on verifying all this with a meter before I do anything!)



The main question I have is on the one that they designate "start", it's the
wire that's active when you've turned the key to the "start" position.
According to their color chart, it's also listed as "blue". Is that the
same wire as the "blue" wire in the list above.



Can anyone familiar with the Santa Fe wiring give me some clarification on
this?



Also, I know this seems like a basic question, but the hook up to each wire
would be basically just "tapping" into each line, sort of like a "tee" in a
plumbing fixture, correct? That's what it seems like it would have to be,
otherwise the key ignition wouldn't functions.



If anyone has done this, or has any other information, it would be
appreciated.
