Hi -

Yes, the automatic transmission shifts as well as any other I've driven. The
top (sometimes called the 4th) gear allows the engine to run at lower RPMs when
driving at relatively high speeds such as when you're on the InterStates. This
means better fuel economy and less wear on the engine.
