"Put in the name of one of my CDs"? Er... what precisely did you do
here? Do you mean, "I used the keys on the remote or the audio player
to inform the audio system that the CD currently in the drive is called
'Example CD' "?

Hm. So you don't know exactly what you did? Keep trying to recreate
it. There are some CDs that have what's called "CD-Text" information on
them; it could be that the audio system is reading this data and
displaying it. It's possible to burn an audio CD with CD-Text
information included using the -text option to cdrecord, or putting
CD_TEXT lines into the .cue files cdrdao uses.

Also, each audio CD has a (theoretically) unique series of bytes in its
TOC. FreeDB.org uses this series of bytes as an identifier, and has
lists of the track titles keyed to this identifier. So if you insert a
CD with unique series 0xBEEFDEADF000, kscd or xmms can query freedb.org
using that identifier, and find out that track 1 is called "example song
1", track 2 is called "MacArthur Park", etc. (This is how grip
automatically extracts titles from the CD when you're using it to
rip/encode.)

Figures. Have you tried Googling on the exact make+model# of this audio
system?

"MP3s" here meaning "A CD burned with an ISO9660 (plus Joliet and/or
Rock Ridge extensions) filesystem, containing mp3 files", or "An audio
CD created from mp3 files"?

Oh, it's "CDs" and "MP3s". http://angryflower.com/bobsqu.gif makes an
excellent memory aid.
