Rear Wheel Hub Assembly
I have a 2003 Santa Fe FWD and the rear end seems to have a "growling" sound
when turning to the left at road speeds. occasionally in straight stretches it flares up a bit also. It Sounds like a bearing but since the car has had repairs on that quarter due to an accident, I don't want to have the dealer warranty the parts. Hyundaitech, I want to replace the bearing hub assembly and the Spindle too I would guess. Any tips or idea on the cost. I am fairly good at most repairs so the prospect does not bother me. Thanks in advance |

After logging in and clicking on the Bell&Howell picture, enter your car's VIN for best results. Add items you're interested in to the shopping cart, and when you're done, select a dealer near you and view your shopping cart from the original login window. The cart will have suggested list prices for all selected parts. Bob |
Re: Rear Wheel Hub Assembly
I've never done this on a Santa Fe, but I would imagine the hub/bearing
assembly just unbolts and comes right off. The spindle may be a different issue. It may be part of the rear suspension member. If you want to check whether this is actually the noise, lift the rear wheel in question off the ground, get under the car, and have a helper spin the wheel. If you put a long screwdriver from the back of the spindle area to your ear, you can probably hear the bearing if it's noisy. You could do the same on the other side if you wanted to compare noise levels. I just did one on a Sonata that was on the side of the car opposite from where I thought it was coming from. I managed to get it right by listening like I mentioned above. |

Thanks for the info. I went through the steps but the items will not add to
the shopping cart. Although it looks a little clearer, I am Still stuck. As I was looking for advice on the R&R I will hope others pass by with advice as well. Re: Rear Wheel Hub Assembly
Bob
Interesting, I have no (add to Cart) button on the page top. I will turn off my pop-up blocker and try again. Hyundaitech Thanks for the advice. It looks pretty basic on the webtech site. The exploded view is easy to read and I just wanted to get an idea on any tricks or tips. With the noise being more apparent under load, (with the vehicle weight pushing outward) The right side is my guess, and other riders in the car seem to feel it on that side also. I will try the mechanics stethescope I have in my tool box and compare the 2 wheels. I Have not needed it for many years, but that is why I kept it. Thanks again, Let me know if you think of anything else.
