Rust proofing

I live in an area where roads are salted in the winter. Is rust
proofing a good idea on a 2008 Elantra?

I'd recommend moving to Fla, but seems everyone is a target of a crime
or murder there anymore. Ahh, so that's why my wife wants ME to move there.

Remember Rust Jones? Rustproofing done wrong can cause more problems that
it prevents. Care are made pretty well today with galvanized steel and good
paint, but I don't have specifics on the Elantra. The warranty is pretty
good though
7 YEAR / UNLIMITED MILES
ANTI-PERFORATION WARRANTY Covers rust-related corrosion of body sheet
metal.

Covers 7 years unlimited miles starting with 2005 Model Year
(previously 5 year/100,00 Miles for 2004 and prior model years).

Covers perforation (rust hole through the body panel from inside to
outside) corrosion of original Hyundai body sheet metal due to defects in
material or factory workmanship, under normal use and maintenance.

Excludes surface corrosion

Rust proofing isn't really needed anymore. One of the first steps in
painting a car now is to electrocoat it by dipping the chassis in an
electrically charged solution that completely covers the metal. I'm
just about due south of you at 42 30 and I don't know anyone that gets
rustproofing. Heck, I thought all those companies were long gone.

Pretty sure it would invalidate the manufactures rust warranty.

I'm not aware of any manufacturer's rust through warranty that would be
invalidated by rust proofing. It's something of a waste these days, but
that's a different matter.

When they did the old methods, didn't the drill some holes to spray in the
coating? That could be a reason to deny a claim.

Like I said though, I have not heard of any manufacturer denying any claims
for rust through if a car had been rust proofed.

Yah, but I'm sayin', that TruCoat, you don't get it and you get
oxidation problems. It'll cost you a heck of lot more'n five hunnert. ;-)
