Santa Fe ignition key removal

This is getting harder to do! Sometimes I have to restart and kill the
ignition a dozen times and turn the steering wheel to a different spot each
time until I can finally lock and remove the key! Has anyone else had this
experience and do I need some warranty work done here OR is there a
closely-guarded secret to this? Funny that it doesn't happen every time,
but when it does, it is very stubborn for about 10 minutes until it finally
gets done having a good laugh at me and lets me get the key out.

Yeah, Sante Fe's are known for their sense of humor :o).
Mine has a similar problem - if you can call it that. I noticed a few months
after we got it that the steering wheel doesn't lock when you remove the key.
Never did. So I thought it just didn't. I had never seen a car not lock the
wheel when you remove the key, but I didn't think much about it. Last weekend,
I removed the key, turned the wheel about 1/8 of a turn, and it locked! OK, so
it DOES lock. Hmm.... I put the key back in, turned it to release the wheel,
removed it, turned the wheel, and it didn't lock. Hasn't locked again since. I
guess mine has the same wacky sense of humor.

Here's an update on mine. I discovered that the only place the wheel locks on
mine is when I turn the wheel so that the point that would normally be the top
center of the wheel points to about 7 o'clock. But just try turning the wheel
that far with the key out.

Just remove the spaces, fix the last part, and so on.

Guess what?

Must be the stupid KEY cut. Both are the ones that came new with the SF,
but one is smooth as glass and the other is maybe yes, maybe no. Glad I
tried the other one before Hyundai was messing with the vehicle!
