seat comfort
 

Is it just me or does anybody else have this problem. I have had my 03
elantra gls since july and I really can't get fully comfortable in the
drivers seat. I adjust the thing to no avail. Wish I could have taken a 3
month test drive. Otherwise I love my car it drives great. Just the damn
seat.

My girlfriend's mom has a 96 Elantra, the seats are still
uncomfortable. I just had a 03 Santa Fe GLS as a loaner the other day
and the seats were pretty bad in that as well. I think all Hyundai's
have pretty crappy seats. Even the leather seats in my 03 Sonata LX
are pretty firm (although infinitely better than the seats in that
Santa Fe).

Well, I guess that all depends on what you call "comfort." I knew
people in college who thought APC racing seats were comfortable.
Personally, I'd like to be able to take a 2-3 hour trip and not need a
lower-back massage after I get where I'm going. This is not possible
in that 96 Elantra, the 03 Santa Fe GLS, or in the passenger seat in
my 03 Sonata LX (the driver seat is fine because it has the lumbar
support and the rear seats are MUCH more comfortable).

The seats in my Elantra are not the most comfortable I've ever had in a
car, but I've adjusted to them pretty well. The lumbar support is a
joke, it's more like a poke-in-the-butt support. Hey Hyundai, my
lumbar region is about four inches NORTH!

One of the few complaints I have about the car, really.

**I've taken 11-12 hour trips in my ex-car, a SF LX, and my back was
fine. It did take a little while to get used to and I think they were
more comfortable than the Jetta I have now. I think a critic nailed it
when he said that the SF seats felt like you were perched on top of
them instead of being ensconced in them.

My 53 Coupé SE has the most wonderfully comfortable seats.

I have a two door Accent that I put a lot of mileage on. Wouldn't
want to be in the back seat for a 300 miler but the car is infinitely
more comfortable than a bus, plane or train. Unless you travel first
class and I'm guessing not if your ride is a Hyundai, the seats are a
lot better than they were when we were kids. The cloth seats used to
rip after a couple years. The Hyundai seats are durable and firm and
the lumbar support is a bit of a gimmick but is a nice touch. Really,
for the money - get real what were you expecting - a Lincoln Town
Car's upholstery?

Actually, I usually do fly first class. I just choose not to spend
$40K on a car.

If the seats are THAT terrible for you, after-market seats
are available. For a price, you may even have a custom fitted seat
installed (custom = fits-your-butt) . =;-)

Well, I don't have a problem with the driver's seat in my car, just
with the passenger seat. Since I never ride as the passenger, I don't
mind it being uncomfortable.

Also, replacing the seats in the Sonata will result in the air bag
light being on all the time because you lose the side air bags that
are embedded in the seats.
