SONATA (2004) AM RADIO RECEPTION

I have a new 2004 Sonata and the AM radio reception is bad (much static).
Dealer says they can find no problem. I try to tell them that the
courtesy car radio is crystal clear...can't they tell the difference?
Also, when I drive further away, it is so bad that I can't listen to it..

Any ideas what can be wrong?

Possibly nothing wrong, possibly a radio, antenna wiring, or antenna
issue.

What type of car do they give you as a loaner?

I had experienced similar things before.

We found out that the interface wiring between the car and audio is wrong. -
perhaps it was for Korean domestic?
or, perhaps the car audio's wiring is not made according to international
interface rule?

To correct this, we had visited two service center and waited over one
months.
One service center says, nothing problem.
But, the other service center acknowledged what's wrong and they had sent
the audio to the manufacturer factory.

Finally, the problem solved. ( I received the exact one. - the audio maker
did something wiring change on it, I think.)

Sonata's speakers are quite good, isn't it? - even though they need some
more nice amplifier on it.

Wow, and I thought that it was just a problem with my '04 Sonata. My
AM is just about unusable

The AM reception in my 2004 Sonata LX is excellent.

My 2002 Sonata GLS has great AM here in Chicago. Anyone with a bad
in-dash OEM receiver should consider upgrading to an aftermarket
model. Exactly how wide is the market for high quality AM anyway. AM
is inherently poor in sound quality due it's ability to be picked up
far away and through solid objects. It's a trade off. I don't think
Hyundai's factory receivers were designed with killer AM sound and
reception sensitivity in mind.
