How often should you replace spark plugs?

Re: sparkplugs

Presuming you're talking about your Accent, every 30k miles.

Actually, this is a question that came up recently with a guy at the
Firestone where I took my car to get the oil, filter, and coolant
changed (my car is at 30k miles now).

I noticed that the hyundai maintenance log says under "Spark Plugs
(platinum coated)" that you should replace them at 30k miles. I asked
the tech why that was, and he said that it's only true you should
replace copper coated plugs every 30k miles, but with platinum you can
wait until 60k miles.

Does anyone care to confirm? Also, what kind comes in the car?
Copper or platinum?

Moshe

Re: sparkplugs

I was under the impression that the Accent still had copper plugs. It is
true that copper need replacement every 30k and platinum every 60k. If
you can tell the difference yourself, just pull one out and see. They're
pretty easy to get in and out.

Re: sparkplugs

Spark plugs should be replaced when the engine refuses to run.
30K is ridiculus!! Plugs last forever in fuel injected cars, I've
replaced mine at 90K with no problems at all. Much more important are
the wires.
Replace wires at 50K. 30K is a myth to make plug makers more money.
One caviat: service (remove)the plugs) and lubricate the threads once
a year or so, to prevent a frozen plug.
