Timing Belt 2000 Accent

Hi All..

I'm about to change the timing belt on my wife's 2000 Accent GL and I
was wondering if there are any little tricks or problems I should be aware
of?
I've done quite a bit of work on this car and have changed timing belts
on other vehicles but this is the first for a Hyundai. Any websites for info
on this?

Thanks.. Steve

Seeing as the timing belt needs to be changed every 60K miles, I'd recommend
buying a belt through a parts store such as NAPA rather than Hyundai as they
are MUCH cheaper.

You'll need an impact wrench to remove the bolt holding the main pulley to
the crankshaft.

The motor mount has to be removed. I use a small block of wood and a floor
jack to support the engine. Stick the wood block behind the main pulley on
the lip of the oil pan.

It's a good idea to get the timing marks lined up before removing the old
belt and you'll probably want to rotate the engine a couple of turns after
replacing the belt before tightening the tensioner.

If this is the first timing belt change plan on replacing the a/c belt. If
it's the second, replace all the belts, and a water pump change might be a
good idea as well.

Re: Timing Belt 2000 Accent

You can see the service manual at www.hmaservice.com. Select "Service
Information" and "Web Tech", and on the next page, select "shop", and 2000
Accent. Then simply go to the section of the manual you want to see.
