My 01 elantra had no problem towing 900ish pounds around chicagoland for a couple of trips, highway and local driving, but that's fairly flat land. Going through the mountains might add some challenge. Presuming newer ones work the same way, it was easy to install the class I trailer hitch (easy is relative, but it just bolts on under your car. The wiring requires a little more knowledge, but not much). I was pleased that I could add the ability to tow for around $150. Ben |

I had no problem with anything on the trip. No overheating even with the air conditioner on, but i never used 5th gear in order to reduce stress on the box. From memory the handbook states that the Accent can safely tow 400kg unbraked and 700kg braked. They wouldn't say that if there was going to be any problems. Re: towing
Edmunds.com says that the Elantra can tow up to 3,000lbs when trailer
brakes are used. They listed it as one of the best tow vehicles (car OR truck) on the market. http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/list/...6/article.html "chris" <beerbaron_kitchener@yahoo.ca> wrote in news:41fd8312$1 @news.sentex.net: > does anyone know if the accent or elantra would be suitable for towing a > small popup tent trailer? > > > |
