Tucson Towing Capacity?

I live in No. Carolina. I've never been an SUV fan. I currently own an
XG350, and my Passat lease it up next March. We hope to buy a small boat in
the not too distant future, maybe a 17 footer or so. That would require
towing capacity. I know the Santa Fe will pull 3,000 pounds, but I'd like
something smaller and more frugal with gasoline. I think I could get by
with something that could pull between 2K and 2,500 lbs. I've looked on the
Hyundai website and on Edmunds, and have not been able to find towing
capacity listed for the V-6 Tucson. Anyone know?

Never mind. I got it at the dealer's. 2000 lbs with trailer brakes, 1000
lbs without trailer brakes.

Re: Tucson Towing Capacity?

I don't know about the Tucson but if memory serves me correctly the Santa
Fe's, 2.7 L 2WD towing capacity is 3,200 lbs and the towing capacity of the
2.7 L 4WD is 2,700 lbs.. I pull an 19 foot inboard approx 2,800 lbs and it
is satisfactory. I used to have an Explorer and never knew it was behind me.
With the Santa Fe it gets me from point "A" to "B" but I can certainly feel
the boat is behind me. I really like the Santa Fe and it meets my needs but
I wouldn't pull my boat with any lessor vehicle.

My question is why does the 2W Drive pull less that the 2W Drive?

This is because 'towing capacity ' is dictated by the frame, axles, rims
combination......

Thus an 'suv' built on a mid-size car frame can not even pull/carry as much
as the original car frame BECAUSE there is ADDED weight...................if
you put a diesel in it then the towing capacity will even be LESS, same with
4wd because of the added weight.

As weight is added to the vehicle ( people, gear, etc.) the towing capacity
lowers, a good rule of thumb (imo) is to never tow more than 70% of stated
'towing capacity ' .
