That seems odd since the leather interior comes with the LX models not
the GLS. At least that's the way I understand it.

And you are correct...LX has leather; GLS does not.

This should answer your questions, from the
http://www.new-cars.com/2003/2003-hy...antra-gls.html website:

Fuel system electronic multi-port fuelinjection, four-jet fuel injectors,
in-tank fuel pump

The GLS is the entry-level model in the 2003 Hyundai Elantra lineup. While
it doesn't boast the premium appointments of the uplevel GT trim, it doesn't
neglect the necessities either.

So, to answer your questions:
Fuel injection--No carb, and GLS is just a code for the trim style, it
doesn't stand for anything.

Veel success...
Doe-ie!

In Germany, the (Sonata) GLS has leather.

L, GL and GLS were common equipment/trim level designators on Ford cars in
the UK when I was growing up. I always believed they stood for
Grand/Grande, Lux/Luxury, and Super respectively.

Perhaps the X in LX stands for eXtra? Although for some manufacturers, the
"x" indicates 4-wheel drive.

The absence of an "i" as a designation no longer means the car isn't fuel
injected. I believe some manufacturers stopped using the "i" after GT
because of the associated negative image of "boy racers", as well as high
insurance costs, etc.

It doesn't really matter what the letters actually stand for most of the
time, as long as you know what you're getting when you buy a car.

Re: what does GLS mean ?

The only problem I had with my 95 Scoupe was weird electrical ones ,
gauges would stop working or randomly fluctuate , the 1.5L engine was
pretty weak but OK on the open highway . The small size of the car
made it handy to drive in town and in traffic. As for the tranny I had
the 5spd and it never gave me a hint of trouble . By the time I traded
it in for my 01 Elantra I had put 120K on it and the only mechancal
work the engine needed was a new timingbelt (I never bothered to
replace it at 60K but did inspect it frequently ) and it neede the
valve auto adjustment parts fix (I don't remember the technical name
but its those two friggen disk that ride on oil between them that
deal with valve lash adjustment (Hydralic lifters parts ???) ) since
they were pretty worn . O by the way the day I traded it in there was
a young guy who wanted to buy it as I ws cleaning it out at the
dealers LOL
