XG300 2001 Check Engine light
 

Hello Group,
I have this 2001 XG with just shy of 80,000 KM or 50,000 miles on it .
It's running great & I LOVE my car but here in Canada, I'm 4 days out of
warranty & the check engine light has come on & stayed on today. I live in
the back boonies so it's a whole day to get into the dealer. Any ideas??,
much appreciated by this pretty decent 'back yard ' mechanic.

Could be anything. Take it in. By the time you get it scanned elsewhere
and get help as to what it may be, your warranty will probably be dead.

If the car is running well, then you can try resetting the Computer.

Just disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for a few minutes.

Now start the car, if the check engine light illuminates, you have a real
fault.

If it stays off it's ok:)

I thought warranty was 5 yr / 60,000 miles, but maybe thats only 2002 &
later

If your warranty is about to expire, DO NOT CLEAR THE CODE. Chances are,
the lamp will not return until after the warranty is over.

Warranty in Canada was 3 years, 60,000 kilometres but Hyundai due to an
advertising error extended it -in my case to 4 years & 80,000 KM (50,000
miles). By the way the error code was a P0446A, evaporator vent control
malfunction & is most likely (we hope) due to condensation freezing in one
of the systems venting valves. It's supposed to warm up here a bit next week
so I guess I'll find out.
