your opinion about who should do brakes (?)

what is your opinion about having hyundai brakes fixed by the dealer or by a
brake specializing place or a firestone or a goodyear or a pep boys or any
other tire store/shop ?

decent experiences & any horror stories are "fun" too

2003 elantra now has about 26,000 miles on it, and i can sorta "hear metal"
when applying the brake pedal

You'll pay more for the same services at a dealer in most cases, but the
other shops are more likely to try to sell you things you don't need or
force you to buy them in order to get their advertised warranty.

If you're hearing metal grinding, you're probably looking at replacing
rotors as well as pads. Your best bet would probably be a reputable
independent shop if you don't want to spend the $$$ on dealer service.
In my experience the chains tend to be incompetent and/or dishonest.
(Midas seems particularly bad, but I've heard horror stories about
most of them over the years.)

It's my opinion that you should only utilize the dealer service
department for warranty work. Brakes by their nature are a wear item,
thus I would never take the vehicle to the dealer for a brake job.
Same goes for belts and hoses, do those yourself or find a reputable
independent mechanic to do those tasks for you.

As for where to take it...I don't like the chain stores(Just brakes,
midas, meineke, etc..) most of them do not provide quality work in my
opinion. Usually an independent brake/front end shop will give you
better results if you are unable to do the job yourself.
