The Cobalt SS is no more...

...than a slow, heavy excuse for a "sports car" as I have beaten one last night with my LS powered 90 civic. I only beat him by about 2 feet, but a win is a win no matter what. When will GM learn that a 200+hp motor does nothing in a huge heavy car. :wood:

Charlie_Chaos 04-12-2006 12:30 PM

I think the guy in the Cobalt needs to learn how to drive.

You are correct though. A win is a win. Good driving.

sky_kid 04-12-2006 12:34 PM

oh no, wait, the SS is a 'sport compact car', so you know, it doesnt have to be that fast. Never mind that the engine has as much power from its 2.2 turbo that most other companys could get from 2.2 liters N/A,

ten years ago. :retard:

haha, supposed to be going to sleep, but this i couldnt pass up. lets compare the new cobalt to the new heap civic (generation 387).

sickvic
2600lb
197hp
139tq

cobalt
2730lb
205hp
200tq

stupid ricer, get a clue.

oh and its supercharged, not turbo. i thought you knew it all, after all, you do own the first civic ever made and think its all hot .

lmao.

goneinsixtyseconds 04-13-2006 04:04 AM

wtf .. another chevy vs. honda thread :lame:

if we're talking about the new supercharged cobalt ss vs. the new civic si, than any 1/4 mile race will be pretty much a drivers battle, but i'd put money on the civic to be better performing in the corners on the track.

(taken from road and track)
http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/d...data_panel.pdf
http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/d...data_panel.pdf

2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS (Supercharged) $24,195
Curb Weight - 2970 lbs
Test Weight - 3145 lbs
Horsepower - 205 bhp @ 5600 rpm
Torque - 200 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm
1/4 mile - 14.8 @ 96.8 mph

2006 Honda Civic Si - $26,080
Curb Weight - 2880 lbs
Test Weight - 3060 lbs
Horsepower - 197 bhp @ 7800 rpm
Torque - 139 lb-ft @ 6200 rpm
1/4 mile - 15.0 @ 95.6 mph

if it were me, i'd still choose the civic over the cobalt, why? for only 2 grand more you can have the peace of mind over issues such as build quality, reliability, but more importantly ... DEPRECIATION. i'll be happy to know that my car won't be worth as much as a mcdeal at mcdonalds 5 years down the line as most chevy's are now-a-days.

I don't really care enough about GM to actually know what they are selling anymore, but your right, GM gets 5 more horsepower out of a 2.2 supercharged engine then honda is getting out of a 2.0 n/a motor.

go gm?:retard:

thats whats funny about you honda guys, you never mention torque. poor poor honda, will never know what its like to have some.

go honda? :retard:

sleepy GSR 04-13-2006 11:07 AM

funny thing is that even with 60 or so less pounds of torque the honda is only 0.2 seconds slower in the 1/4 mile, so all your torque (and i know it is pretty usefull sometimes) doesnt play a major role here.

are you trying to say they look alike? i see no resemblance
plus when did a civic come with two-tone leather, mp3 stereo, supercharged 2.0L, 18 inch wheels, oil life meter, factory performance upgrades?

civtegra90 04-13-2006 02:08 PM

you people are all high, this wasnt supposed to be a chevy vs honda thread. i was just saying that i beat the damn thing, we had a great time laughing at the fact that my "shitbox" beat the best compact chevys ever made. does noone have a relevant opinion or do you just wanna spew crap. also, everyone goes on about how much touque the cobalt has, yay for chevy, too bad its a european motor.

oh, and "stuped ricer"? my car is probably the least rice on this site, so shut your cocksucker.

1 quick_hatch 04-13-2006 04:07 PM

was the cobalt ss a supercharged or the regular ss? cause if it was the ss supercharged u probably would have lost. just saying though.

1 quick_hatch 04-13-2006 04:11 PM

also don't forget you are also swapped and the cobalt is stock. and you weigh a hell of alot less than the cobalt does. If the cobalt weighed the same as your car you would have lost hands down. also race from a second gear roll and you will see the ouitcome would have been alot different.
