Interesting race against my girlfriend.
 

Ok, so, she has a 1995 Monte Carlo Z34, 210 horses, 215 torque, and on every website ive searched theyve all said that it runs a 15.4 in the quarter. Now, we lined them up tonight just for fun, both thinking we were gunna lose, and I won by over 2 car lengths. NOW...how am i beating a faster car than me? We're both auto, and the starts were exactly the same, no power-braking or anything, both a pretty much the exact same time. I DO however have that Y87 package, LSD, 3.42 gears, which i dont think was accounted for in the 15.7 E.T. 1/4 mile time for the 3.8. Also, ive got intake, and a muffler, which does like...nothing. But bottom line, I should have lost. Perhaps the 1/4 mile ET for her monte wa just wrong? Anyone else got any ideas?

she didn't get full power as quickly?

it could be ur gearign as well. or maybe FWD vs RWD. i know my friend has a 01 3.8 'bird and i raced him in my moms '04 monte SS and he beat me by 1/2 car (and he was pissed.. :D )... i told him v6s r slow :eek: *wating for 02bird 2 step in here and beat me for making the v6 slow comment :lolsign: *

Like the other said, gearing and the fact the Monte is FWD made a difference. Maybe she had wheel spin coming off the line too?

if she floored it imediatly she spun the tires.Could also be the monte is heavy (it's a full size car)

and if she manuly shifted the a4 tranny

You guys are getting me mad. We both have auto. Both drove the same. The weight of the car should not have to do with ANYTHING if the car is supposed to run a 15.4 oh well maybe i'll ask the other boards. Or maybe the 1/4 mile times i read for the monte were just wrong...all 3 from 3 different sites.

maybe the car is not running at its full potential, something wrong, needs a tune up, etc, etc... you asked for ideas, they supplied 'em, don't get so pissy about it.

Nono, I didnt get ideas. I got the same comment over and over. Actually youras was the first one that could be why. Im just gunna stop asking questions, this board is starting to bug the **** out of me.

2 people in 2 different cars can't drive identical it's impossible, we are telling you rreasons for the difference, if you don't like the answers then whose the stupid one?It bothers me when someone asks a question then tells everyone who answers they are wrong.IF she floored it from a standstill it would spin the tires, the time you had may have been a farce, or a lower optioned car (you don't know how fast her car is based off someone elses car)swap drivers and see if you get the same result, rather than ******** that we can't pull an answer out of our asses

if it bothers you that much, then why are you here? And no, I'm not trying to start any crap, but I know if i was at a place and it bothered me, I'd just leave.

Ok Jimmy- here's something for you to read-

People often just go by their top horse and torque numbers and use those to preach about how fast their car SHOULD be. But something that you need to keep in mind is, just like Arch said your power bands are different. You might reach your torque sooner than her car. The fact that her car is prolly heavier..there are so many factors to consider. Maybe your car was running cooler and hers hotter, a cooler car will make more power. Maybe your shift points are better, ect...

The point is there are about a BILLION different things that can make the slightest difference. You didn't exactly make it clear how the race went either. Did you start out beating her and smoke her the whole way, or did you pull on her when you shifted ect..You need to be more clear if you expect someone here to give you exactly why you won.

I'm sorry but I think its comical one someone somebody openly asks a question then gets pissed about the answers...If you want to know the real reason how about you call the CEO of GM, he might be able to give you an answer you will listen too.. :rolleyes:

If anyone has ever driven a Z34 with the dual overhead twin cam engine, then you know why the Monte driver lost. Weak *** powerband.
