Me (240sx) vs 350whp Merkur

So i was driving back home today around 4-5 (?) on the 401 doing between 100-120.

I get passed by a mint Merkur, black guy driving, and this thing sounded pretty cool, so i changed lanes and followed him. He guns it the first time, I stay in 5th and keep on his ***. Then we slow down for traffic, and he drops a gear. So i shift to 4th to keep up, now we are doing 200+ (my speedo is digital and only reads to 180), shift to fifth @ 6500 and i start pulling pretty hard. I pass him on the left and he looks surprised.

Then i slow down to give him a thumbs up, he gives me the thumbs up too, then hes like, "wtf you got in there man? I have 350hp." To which i said, "I've got about 100 less..."

Seemed like a chill dude. Fast car, and it was clean!

:thumbsup :thumbsup

Those things are sweet cars, just don't try to fix them. I've seen reviews of full Cosworth XR4ti's, and if they brought them here, they would dominate the street. Nice kill. You probably had 600 lbs less on. Made all the difference. :thumbsup

Was it a goldish coloured car with a fairly conservative body kit and 2 big tips?

sounds like you had some fun, good stuff. I have a red one which is going through the cossie look now. 350whp in a x4r which weighs less than 3000 pounds and on the hiway is a tough cookie to chew on. Those cars are made for hispeed runs I hit 150mph with minor mods set up at 16psi. Or at least I was told when racing a bmw on the 400. This weekend I'm of to a meet where there will be a 650hp xr from the states.......got to go for a spin in that one. You might have more power than you think or buddy was just guessing, either way awesome job :thumbsup .

You should come to one of our meets. We are at Calfornias at dixie and the qew, I think it's called Applegate or Applewood mall one of the two anyway you can see it from the qew. They meet every 2nd monday of each month, come out and check it out I think you will be surprised how easy it is to make these things very fast.

No, the car was red and had a stock looking body, seemed lowered, and had a non flashy dual exhaust.

Although I am also guesstimating, i am sure that at most i am putting 260 to the wheels...I am somewhere between the 240-260 zone at stock boost (7-8 PSI). you are right, it don't add up...

So you're running stock boost.. then the other guy was talking about having 350 whp.. because @ stock boost u'r making 240-260 bhp not whp... so he has over 100+ whp on you... no matter if he's 300 lbs heavier he still should have pulled on you...

Good run, but this is why you can never trust what someone says... so many people talk (either because they don't know what they're talking about or because they are ashamed of what just happened)...

That's for sure. Lots of guys who buy these cars think that an xr with exhaust and boost turned up turns to mega hp. Sorry not so, it will be fast but not 350whp fast that takes a little tuning and some good mods to see that. A buddy of mine has one running a t3/4 some headwork stock bottom end and sds management setup on his. He has out run modded sti's, one evo from the states up here during a meet and a mustang cobra svt. in car is stupid fast on the hiway!!!. He's the local tuner on this bad boys here in Toronto. Shoots flames like it was a bonfire out the *** end, wild .
