Well i had my first kill today with the formula, I was going up a two lane part of route 924 and a 98+ z28 passed me out so i cought up with him up the road a bit at a red light, so he starts revvin his engine and smiling so i just sat there. The light turns green and we both punched it he got me off the line cause i couldnt hook up but i pulled on him hard after i hooked up, we raced a good 1/4 mile about i bet him by about 3 or 4 car lenghts. he just fallowed me then so i pulled in a parking lot and we bullshited for a bit, i found out his was all stock and an automatic too. i wish i would have hooked up off the line because he did and i still beat him i wonder how much more i would have beat him if i would have. overall im pretty happy how it performed being this is the first time i raced my car.

How much differance is there between a stick and auto anyways? They have the same engine. How can there be such a huge difference?

well, there's a big difference actually.

1. manual's can launch at higher RPM's, meaning harder pull off the line
2. manual's lose less power through the tranny than auto's do, typically 16% through manual and 18-22% through the auto.

but if you look at the latest testing the difference is small (I saw the new mustang so I'll use that as my reference) the auto was a 13.8 the stick was 13.7 so statistically no difference

Yes the auto is becomin a better tranny, If im wrong correct me but I heard that in the 05 GTO the auto is just as good as the 6spd in it. Unless thats just in the Spor Package option.

I think your right, the big thing I've noticed on test results is one or the other is usually manufacturer supplied info, teh other is a test car that was usually built for teh magazines to play with

On the auto/manual thing, I prefer manual mostly for the fun. I honestly can't see myself driving a nice big z28 with an auto. I'm a control freak I guess. :)

When I was looking for camaro's in my price range, I saw lots of z28s that would fit my price, but they where all autos.. I actually went with a 5sp v6 instead because I'd be more happy with it. I'm wierd like that. :lolsign:

manual doesn't give any more control (you actually have less since a human can't be as precise)

Just something about driving a manual thats more "fun" for me than simply pressing on the gas and going.. Living in Arizona its also nice to pick the gears to downshift to properly so I don't have to sit on my brakes when going down mountains, or the ease of going into neutral and coasting when you want to.

can do that in an auto if you want also, it's a preference thing and if you need some justification you chose wrong, I like to harrass people about it when tehy say manual is faster and better, truthfully for street driving there is little difference, drag racing auto is better road course manual should be better

i wanted a stick and ended up with an auto. you might loose a little more in the trans but i shift it myself all the time. and when the shift kit gets here i should shift just as hard as a stick. all i can say is im happy, its nice to not have to shift sometimes (Like when you just went to the drive thru)

you get to choose your gears meaning more controls.

yes i wanted a stick also but i couldnt find a decend 98-02 around here anywhere, i am planning on puting a shift kit it my car after i do some of the engine mods i have planned.

So we should design a car with a computer that turn's and controls the gas and brakes as well because we'll be even more consitant then?

the fun of it is being able to do other things and not having to worry about shifting.

like reading a book and talking on a cell phone? It amazes me how many people you hear about going through a house because they were looking over there shoulder thought they had it in reverse but had it in drive, not saying it can NOT happen with a standard tranny but I do think that the chances are greatly deminished. However gay it sounds a car is NOT a toy, they want to make these things easy as cake to drive so your buddy with under 100iq can drive one but then winds up killing somebody cuz he wasnt paying any attention. Not only do standard trannys give you more control over the vehicle they keep you on your toes.

the only car through a building accident I witnessed it was a manual. The fact is the government is afraid to not give out licenses easy, voting base and all

well me myself personally havent witnessed any major accidents like that myself but hear about em fairly often. I have however been in cars a bunch of times where who ever was driving doesnt put it in the right gear or forgets which gear hes in and goes the wrong direction, nothing major but enough to hit something or somebody if they were standing in the way. Every single one an auto tranny.

you forget arch 50 percent of the population is stupid. For example. IQ of 100 is average. Meaning 50 percent of the population has above that score of 100 (above average or "smarter" if you will) and 50 percent of the population has below that score of 100 (stupid, idiot, stupid idiot if you will) so ya. I have an suv but it holds my install stuff and goes through snow (not that there's any in AL)

Jimmy, I just got back from driving back and forth to San Diego twice (family emergency) not gonna be heading down to Phoenix this month, but I'll look ya up next time i'm there. I saw your new billet grill and it looks sharp, would love to see what you've done with the car. Mine's still completely stock (cept stereo), believe me when I say i'm new to all this engine mod stuff. :) I'm a computer geek at heart and just discovered the joys of a camaro.
