Stock Camaro v Stock Neon
 

sounds like an unfair race right? heres the deal. my buddy used to have a '97 neon that he bought off his girlfriends grandma. he sorta riced it out a bit but i didn't have the heart to tell him. anyways. my other buddy bought a 1984 camaro berlinetta and we let him keep in on my driveway (he lives in a condo) while we fixed it up. the berlinetta was pathetic. it had clocked nearly 300k on the stock 305 V8. when it was brand new it was pumping out a lousy 150hp out of 5 liters of chevy iron and 240 ft.lbs. the car is supposed to weigh around 4000lbs as well. neon is almost 1000 lbs lighter, makes 132hp and 120 or abouts torque. by the numbers the neon should win. it has a better power/weight ratio, especially considering how beat up the camaro is.

so once the snow melts, I decide to drive the unplated camaro around the block a bit for shits and giggles. my friend was around and followed me in his neon. he really wanted to race it so i figured hey, wth not. the exhaust was cut before the muffler so it was obnouxiously loud. he honks 3 times and we both put our foots in it. through first gear the two cars are neck and neck. i can't believe how slow the camaro is, it just won't pull. all this gnarly fire breathing noise and nothing to show for it. then a hard, automatic shift into 2nd and i feel her kick and it leaves the camaro in the a giant plume of burnt oil. it wasn't even fair, it was like pulling away from a parked car. it felt good. untill i had to stop. the brakes on that car were rubbish to begin with, and with rusted over rotors I almost ended up going through an intersection. lesson learned, i'm making sure the brakes on my Z are top notch.

anyways, thought I would share. Sort of an underdog story, but not really. what should have happened, didn't.

he got hit by a drunk driver in the driver rear door. almost took my friend out.

and just for jokes, when i worked at a dealership and brought his car to mount some tires, the tech's saw it and wrote these papers.
