Your highlights on the street

I know project camaro does not condone street racing

But come on... hasnt anyone here had those times where the streets are empty... and theres a ricer next to you... he revs his engine... and when the lights turn green you take off??

Lets hear about your highlights or best experiences

Adric 09-27-2007 07:07 PM

Only person I have ever raced on the street was Justin ( paarman97maro) and he beat me bad ;) Heres a vid of the race. http://video.projectcamaro.com/video...a7010aeb2d.htm

Mike Jones 09-27-2007 07:14 PM

I won't lie, I have never street raced against anyone in my entire life.

89CamaroRS*V8* 09-27-2007 07:23 PM

For some reason it wont work, but ill go to dereks sometime and check it out.

Wow, that takes alot of restraint especially when you got a fast camaro thats begging you to floor it :D good job though, its the responsible thing to do.

My first time was a couple days ago it wasnt really a race but kind of a game of high speed tag. Of course it was out in the backroads of washington, where me and a bmw were goin head to head up a huge hill with a couple twists and turns. That was the biggest adrenalin rush ive ever had, but probably the last time ill do it again in a looong time.

I think dereks had an experience with a turbo'd porsche 911 :) Too bad hes not on.

ITSA6 09-27-2007 07:49 PM

i have had alot of experiences with this. never raced for money but gone all out. i don't like to talk about it though because i am not entirely proud of it nor do i encourage it but yes i have done it

98CamaroZ28 09-27-2007 07:49 PM

oh yea a GT2 turbo...ahah forgot to mention that one...I was at a 4 way stop and I was being nice and let this Porsche go first and as soon as he turned he took off down the road, and as I was making a right I decided to play catch up...the porsche was already a couple seconds ahead of me and I hit 60 by the time it started to slow down...you could hear the turbo and accceleration all the way down the road...if he had kept going, I would have never been able to catch up, when i did, I slammed on my gas a couple times behind him to see if he would respond but he didnt and made a left turn into a neighbor hood...Oh well it was fun...not a race but more of him showing off his Porsche and I thought Id do the same. Personally I hate street racing, but having fun once in a while is cool.

89CamaroRS*V8* 09-27-2007 08:06 PM

Yea thats what it is, catch up, thats what I did it was fun. But yea i dont encourage street racing because of the risks involved. I just want some stories if anyone has to share.

Bernotas05 09-27-2007 08:58 PM

I admit I used to street race a lot, But I will never ever do it again.

I lost two good friends in a street racing accident I was at, It definatly hit home. Dont do it guys its not worth, no matter how safe you think you are or because your on a backroad thinking no cars will come. We felt the same way that night but disasters do happen. Dont risk it.

Adric 09-27-2007 10:14 PM

Yeah I just don't feel safe racing people on city streets Im afraid some ******** little kid will walk out infront of me.. or Ill crash or the other driver will.. In the videos of me and Justin ******* around on the interstate you can see noone atall was infront or inback of us so I felt safe enough to play around.

Also, to my ashtonishment no ricer has ever tryed to race me and backhome im in ricer heaven.

Phate 09-27-2007 10:34 PM

Yes, but no longer.

Mike Jones 09-27-2007 10:37 PM

Exactly how I feel, I'm terified some little kid will walk out and I'll kill him or I'll crash into another car.
Of course I'm pretty out spoken against street racing so I'd be a hyprocrite if I street raced myself.

paarman97maro 09-27-2007 11:13 PM

I have done it.... I used to quite a bit. Sometimes I will play around, but only if theres not much traffic around.. I got pulled over so many times within the first year and half of owning my car its rediculous... Ive been good for a while, so I dont mess around too much.

ITSA6 09-27-2007 11:28 PM

I guess i can add to this 1. i never have in the Taurus hahaha anyways main reason is i have had too many close calls wether with cops or accidents i was almost the cause of an SRT-4 doin about 90 into a Buick after that i haven't done much plus it seems like a waste to me if someone wants to race they can take me to the track it's only like 30 mins. away if they can put me down there more power to them. but when ricers try to run you off the road cause they are pissed you just smoked them in your mom's impala that's just to far for me

2000v6cam 09-28-2007 12:08 AM

i used to street race alot, i got alot of tickets and realized how stupid it was, so i havent really street raced in years

89CamaroRS*V8* 09-28-2007 03:16 PM

Wow, people on this forum are really responsible thats good to hear.

Every once in a while though its fun to play around, especially in washington when the weathers good and your in the backroads at a place called grahm where theres no cars for miles and just open straight roads. Its actually pretty cool to test out your car and see what its capable of, you just have to watch for deer.

red9450 09-28-2007 06:45 PM

I'm not that responsible. I did turn down a race to an ******* in a stock srt4 on the way from the track last night though. he wanted to know why I wouldnt race him, and I told him that it wasn't worth a ticket for me to race something that i knew i could beat. lol. the look on his face was priceless. Tried to hang with a RUF RGT porsche from a stoplight once. He put it up on the limiter, and burned all 4 on the launch. needless to say, it was far from close. Street racing is no doubt one of the biggest adrenaline rushes i've experienced, but only when there is no traffic. I'll race anything that I think is faster than me, but almost always turn down a race with something that is stock and runs 14s or slower. When I go down to the street races and we're all hanging out, if someone comes up to me, and the first thing that they say is that they'll give me "the hit" my eyes light up like a kid on christmas. I'm game.

blue89vert 09-28-2007 07:46 PM

i used to sometimes. just for fun with my friends. not really with just people next to me at stop lights. this is kind of ironic b/c just last night i was thinking really hard about all the stupid **** i have done in cars....i got away with a hell of a lot but totalling my car and getting the ranger impounded put an end to my wreckless driving. ill still have fun once in a while but nothing really crazy. ive been wanting to race my friends eclipse but i dont really wanna risk it now. so im just gonna have him race my other friend who i have beaten numerous times and if he wins then ill have to give him a run. if not then i know i dont have to prove anything.

sman 09-28-2007 09:55 PM

I did, one time, against my buddies decked out sonoma, beat him, but it wasn't a real "race" . I dont want anything to do with racing, I too know someone was killed in an accident racing. Totally not worth it, take it to the track and let er loose there.

00formula 09-28-2007 11:04 PM

just recently went up to a cobalt ss with some mods but it was just a pull on a highway for a bit not an actual street race with all the hype

108Dragon 12-09-2007 05:14 PM

I'm going to be totally honest since not many others here are:
When I was a kid there was a road just outside of town in Kansas where I grew up where EVERYONE who was ANYONE in the high performance community came and raced for money and prestige. I watched some of the hardest hitting American iron roar.. HemiCudas, Superbirds, OLD LS6 powered Chevelle SS, REAL Split Window Corvette Fuelies, GTOs, an always hated but REAL 429 side oiler Cobra, and my Dad's '66 Impalla SS 409 Convertible. Those were the days when "racing was dangerous and sex was safe". I was 6 then. I'm 41 now and nothing has changed but the year of my street machine.
It is really aggrevating when people go around trying to make everything safe. Being a policeman has NEVER been a safe occupation. All the new laws in the world aren't going to make it safer. Want safe? Get a job at McDonalds. But you'll probably get shot up by some nutjob on a "get famous" mission. What IS safe anymore. Think you're ANY safer racing on a track. Think again. All racing on the track means is there are no turns to slide off of (unless you're autocross or slolom), you managed to configure your car to the "rules", and the SPECTATORS are relatively safer. You're STILL at the mercy of your skill, that of the guy next to you, and the mechanic who built your car. If you're scared that you'll wreck your car, then you either lack the money, skill, or experience to play the game-on the track or the street.
If you don't street race because you're afraid of "legal" implications, then you are lying to yourself. Why did you buy your car? Why did you put the money and time into it to make it what it is? Bragging rights? You might as well have bought a VW Bug and save yourself the hassle and save some gas at the same time.
Maybe I'm mistaken, but this is a site for Street and Pro High Performance F-Bodies.. am I right? I really don't think we all signed up here to lie to each other about what great responsible citizens we are. Save that for the judge when you get to court for doing what you're lying to the rest of us about not doing. Grow some nuts and retain a good lawyer to cover your arse when you get caught doing what you were born to do. lol
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm here to compare notes with my peers and learn how to be faster, hit harder, and build a better machine. My ride is complete with rock chips, chrome chipped rims, and cracked windshield, semitrashed front spoiler and groundeffects. And I didn't lower it because I don't drive like I'm "drivin Miss Daisy". And it looks the way it does because I don't baby it. When I street race, its for $100 or more per shot, and it either helps feed my family or replace the parts I tear up playing the game. Sometimes I win, sometimes I get my arse handed to me. But I have the nuts, money, and experience to play in that arena.
Oh..and if you race in any neighborhood where you KNOW there will be people wandering around, you're a moron anyway. Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings.

diz 01-10-2008 08:48 AM

i raced a ford thunderbird awhile back in my old v6 camaro, got my ass kicked but nobody really wants to mess with my ls1 now. plus if its just some kid and his girlfriend in his moms accord im not gonna waste my time

GixxerSteph 01-10-2008 02:12 PM

I don't waste my time in my v6 Camaro. I have never street raced either and don't plan on it.

Smokingss 02-04-2008 12:06 PM

Back in the day i used to mess around quite a bit, now that ive grown up some, lol, i try to keep it on the track. Occasionally, i'll take the car out for a night drive and just cruise the highways enjoying the car(since i only get to drive it a day or 2 every month or 2).

And if during that drive i come across a car that thinks it can hang with me, i ususally play around a little. I wont mess around in traffic though. Keep in mind its usually after midnight i'd be out so the roads here are pretty dead. With my original motor, i used to get people reving at me all the time, especially at traffic lights. Now, ill roll up next to just about anything, from a riced out civic to a worked evo9... and they wont even look twice at me now, its quite saddening, lol.

The most recent "run-in" on a highway i had was with a 2007 BMW M6. that thing is insane. i barely managed to put a car length on him. I ended up talking to him and he was claiming 600hp(stock is about 500+) and he obviously had a full exhaust since his car was just as loud as mine. He was impressed a "camaro" was a good match for him.

As for other cars, most i just spin my tires for and scare them away. I guess for some reason when the car next to you, which barely idles, can light up the tires at 55mph... you dont wanna try anymore... haha

pretty good read. and alot of what your saying is true. But some of us just dont. Id be lying if i say i didnt but i dont much anymore. I just love my car and with that its plain n simple.
I did enjoy reading that for the argument of the other side of the law. you do bring valid points.

paarman97maro 02-04-2008 08:38 PM

agreed. I mess around time to time, but usually the roads im on around here are busy, so Ill stray away. I do have a good time on the backroads of my hometown though... Gotta love the open road country.

91z 2 8 03-27-2008 10:07 PM
