93's are, but newer I didn't think were allowed because of the bumper/import rules? I may be wrong on this one, but I know a 93 was the last year USDM was made!

I don't think bumper rules apply for 15 years or older cars. If you're talking about JDM cars, technically you have to wait until next year to register it, but what you can do is import a '93 and register it as a show car for the max. of one year and then register it next year.

but what if im not buyin an imported car from japan? like those 1994 and 1995 models from the states?

and if i do register the car as a show car, will it cost me more money and would the procedures be the same?

thanks !

the 93's are totally legal! but the imported ones like mentioned would need to be insured differently! if you look on Auto trader there are a couple 93's for sale!!

I'm not sure about the show car licenses...

Aren't imported cars from the states legal regardless of year though? I think they just need daytime running lights (?)

Not quite. The FD3S was imported to the USA from 1993-1995. Check the RIV on what needs to be done to import from the states. The 1993 is just as legal to import from the states as a 1995. I think its just due to the day time running lights that need modification to meet Canadian standards. I'm not 100% sure on that, but next year the 1993 will be 15 years old and can be brought it with no changes. There is no differences with bumpers from 93-95. Only daytime runners I think to be brought to Canada.

According to RIV, the RX7 is admissible up to 1996

As long as it's from the states. If you're importing from Japan, it HAS to be 15 years old. This is why all the importers list the year and month of manufacture of the car.

RHD is tricky when turning left at big intersections. Minivans facing you are REALLY NOT your friend then since they block everything :(

just wait for a yellow light lol.

I am looking into getting an rx7...but the next 2-3 years.
95 was the last year made in the UNITED STATES.
You can import from the US but u just have to do the minor mods (drl's, bumpers, odometer)

japan its totally different, stupid 15 year rule applies..., just wait next 2-3 years, 1995 r2's ftw ;)

so to recap

1993-1995 USDM FD3S are legit in toronto
1992 JDM FD3S are legit in toronto

1993 JDM FD3S NOT LEGIT in toronto until next year. (month's have to be exact)

1992 JDM rx7 is the exact same as the 1993 rx7.

Guys.....The third generation Rx-7 was available in canada and the USA. 1993 is the most common Rx-7 in both countries. 1994 & 1995 are a lot more rare and had some improvements made on the car which make it more desirable to own than a 93.
You would have a very difficult time trying to find a 95 in Canada. My 1994 is a Canadian car, sold here.

1996-2002 models do exist, but they are all RHD and only were available in Japan/Australia......and the 1992 is actually a model that does not exist in North America (there was a gap between the 2nd generation & the 3rd generation).....it was only sold under the 1992 year as a RHD (as a 3rd generation) in Japan. They (the 92's) are the RHD japanese models that you would see people have now started to bring over to Canada, because of the 15 year rule. Between Canada and the USA.....you can import any of the 1993-1995 (3rd gen) models you want....just have to make sure the car gets all the proper bumper, running-light certifications, etc.
