Anybody know anything about Miatas?

My girl is thinking of getting a 2000 - 2001 Miata and I have to find her one. Anybody have any experience with these? Low 16 seconds? Great for autocross, but how are they on a road course? Not much pulling power I guess, but I know some people swear by these as the best pocket racers around...

Opinions?

Well it is the #1 car gay men drive. :p

Anyways when I was 16 I wanted a 91' Miata so I test drove 2 of them. The car is light and handle amazing on good tires. Acceleration isnt the greatest but has a little pep. Not meant for winters though...ive heard these cars get stuck very easily in snow and have shitty traction in bad weather. Havent tried one in rain.

I chose the MKI MR2 over the Miata but both cars are very simular to drive. I found the MR2 more comfortable to drive but the only reason i bought it over the Miata was b/c of the price.

They make awesome track cars are are very reliable. If a Miata is stored properly for winters and well taken care of it should last you a very long time.

Hey thanks Adam, you just got me thinking!
MK II MR2 Turbo!! Why didnt I think of that?!
Cute little two-seater. She might go for it.... Way better than the Miata, but they are all pretty old. I dont know if she would consider a 12 year old Toyota...Hmmmm.

Well the MKII are very nice and has quite a bit more power than the miata's. The turbo model runs high 14's stock which is ok.

Although they are fairly reliable and parts are rare but not too expensive. And yes i would definately choose an MKII turbo over a miata any day! :thumbsup

Does anyone remember the website that used to have a banner add on this site that specialized in Miata turbo kits. I think they did 240 kits too?...
In Newmarket maybe?

miata's are not the fastest, but very very very fun to drive, and very easy to open up. if this is indeed for your gf, i dont think she will need the extra power of the mr2, which is probably an older and less reliable car at that point.
miata however, is really limited by weather, and i hope she doesnt mind shelling out some big cash for a car thats good for many 4-5 months in the year
sw20 (2nd gen) mr2 is bigger and heavier then the miata, so she may or may not like it as much.
my gf was also big on the miata's until she actual sat in one. miata is a very small and tight car, which some people like, but others dont like the tight as a glove feel of the miata's interior, as it turned my gf away

all depends what your gf wants this car for. miata is fun, reliable and good on gas. have her go test drive some and see how it feels.
