im gonna be getting my hands on a 323 and was wondering what are some possible engine swaps that are common and not to expensive to do. Looking for the best bang for the buck:smokin:

Well did sum research and it seems like the 1.8L turbo will do the trick now i have to find a realiable and cheap shop to do the swap,,i know those to words shouldnt be used together, so anyone got any good shops,,ill give MPS a call tommorrow.

I'm pretty sure that was the same shop my friend had his 323 after a BPT swap ,and they were unable to get it running after them having it for a couple of months. In all fairness they didn't do the swap, but at the same time you'd think they'd be able to figure out what was wrong since they are supposed to specialize in mazdas. I'm pretty sure its the same shop, as theres not many orange rx7's with 20B's in them.

thanks for the heads up:thumbsup:

how long ago was that?

they are not specialized or suppose to specialize in mazdas btw.

DSMonster 11-09-2006 05:26 PM

I'm sorry, maybe not specialize in mazdas but like you said yourself "hes got lots of experience with mazda". I believe he had went there because they were authorized dealers/tuners for his engine management system. I believe it was a TEC2. This was last summer btw, but either way they should have been able to get it up and running, specializing in mazdas or not.

True, at first the shop couldn't get it running, but did your buddy tell you that the reason the car wouldn't start is because he put the cam gear on the exhaust cam 90 degrees off? The shop did figured that out... and the 323 fired up instantly, after they got the cam gear on correctly. Your buddy told the shop specifically that the TEC wasn't working, so why else would they look to see if the cams were installed correctly (at the time all they knew that it was a JDM import engine, and not that your buddy had the timing belt off)?

Not trying to defend the shop, it's just seems your buddy didn't tell you the whole story... :D

I have done the swap several times not into 323's but a few mx-3's. I have a few AWD trans laying around if you ever wanted to go that route.
Its a pain in the mx-3's because of drive shaft and engine mount issues
but I can't see it being very hard in a 323.
PM if you need any info on the swap.

i would go to mazda323performance.com.com BTW i had a 94 323 with a BP05 swap with a diy turbo @15psi .. you have the choice of B6t (kind of hard to find theses days) bp, bpt, and v6 options in the KL engines and they all bolt in no cuting or welding... bp is a good cheap swap and loves boost ..
