buying turbo engine and intercooler

Hey, its my first post here. Im looking to get a second gen talon, and i found a 1995 in alright shape that needs headwork and a rad for 500$, its close to me aswell. Problem is that it is an esi. So could i possibly take the intercooler, turbo engine and rad out of a first gen and put it in? I dont think it would be a direct bolt though. If not, how much do used second gen turbo engines with a turbo, an intercooler, and a rad go for. Would it be worth the work of finding and putting everything in? or should i just wait until i find an affordable 2gen that is already turbo'd and working?

Well doing an engine swap in an ESi will help you on insurance, so I preach doing swaps all the time. However, which engine is it exactly you were thinking about swapping in? Just make sure the tranny mounts are in the right spot

You cannot drop in a 4G63 into a NT 2G. The non turbo 2Gs use a 420A (neon motor).

Ohh, well neon engines are easy to find anyways lol. I think i might put a neon engine in it until i can get a turbo'd one.

I thought about this, a neon motor would not drop in right? Or atleast a sohc neon engine would not drop in.

So what exactally engines would directally swap in?

put an srt motor into it, dont be afriad to fabricate mounts :)

TurboTalon 05-07-2007 10:29 PM

I wish, but if i had enough cash for an srt motor, id just buy a tsi lol.

I would thinkyou can swap in a 4g63t just get the turbo wiring harness, ecu, intercooler+piping, and probaly the tranny and downpipe for the exaust. theres lots of info on VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions and DSMtuners to help you out

TalonGuy 06-13-2007 02:29 PM

The cost you'd have to spend won't be worth it. Just buy a TSI.

I've owned an ESI before I bought my Spyder and researched for hours about how to complete the swap as well as problems other people had and in the end I realized it wasn't such a great idea.

ryan_doobie 06-14-2007 04:26 AM

yea i have a 1g NT and was doing alot of research, it can be done, but in the end i ended up getting a 1g tsi awd...and now as far as modding the NT ive dropped any ideas with that and focused my attention elsewhere(tsi awd) lol

TalonGuy 06-14-2007 10:36 AM

Theres a whole site dedicated to the NT Talons.. and looking at the cost of some of their setups, made me think "damn, all that money and you barely beat a stock TSI?" It's pointless.

darryloake 07-13-2007 03:14 PM

ya definetly better off waiting to find a tsi or going 1g tsi awd. chances are that 95 has super rusty strut towers which will be job and a half to fix and make it hard for u to sell later. do lots of research before you get into dsms knock wood mines been good so far but be prepared to do work or pay out if your gonna buy one. cuz 90% of them were not maintained worth a

sick96gst 07-24-2007 05:10 PM

2gnt has all the info. the nt engine is litterally backwards, its way hard to put a 4g63t into the nt

spooolin 08-28-2007 06:54 PM

1g nt are easy to swap... there still the 4g63.. the 2gs have a junk 420a and sit on the opposite side of the car.... It is possible.. but not worth it... You need to fab mounts and weld and yea... just not worth it...
