How much would it cost to change the timing belt? on a 91 eagle talon.

Chrysler and Canadian Tire will charge about $1100 to $1200 for parts and labour. Those were the quotes I got.

Metelex quoted $1100 but ended up charging $1200. Since they only deal in cash, you are better off going to a Chrysler dealership.

These are for complete jobs, everything new. Since the cost is mostly parts, don't expect to get it much cheaper.

or, if you get all the parts (new tensioners, belts, pulleys, water pump)
You could find someone on the DSM board to do it for cheaper.

whats wrong with the timing belt anyways? stretched? worn out?

if you try one of these small garages they should do it for around $800 or so a lot of them are located in brampton on Rutherford and steels

VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions and do it yourself. be prepared to replace a whole bunch of broken parts you'll find as you tear into the motor. Dont bother with the balance shaft removal . Waste of time. That and you have to pull the t-case if its a real talon.

make sure to change the balance shaft belt at the same time or you might end up wasting time and money. Ive heard of alot of the b.s belts breaking and taking out the timing belt.

That's so steep, I think you can get a whole t-belt kit off ebay for a lot cheaper.

These timing belts take special care, I wouldn't trust just any mechanic.

and as if your one? Alot of car enthusiasts tent to be working on there own car, and thats ok. However enthusiests know very little compared to an above average technician and i am sure any mechanic can handle this job. Its funny how this industry works! A technician is like a doctor... do you question a doctor when he says you need to be on this medication? no! Well alot of poeple question what actually needs to be done to there car. The reason i see this is because they are uneducated why there car needs specific things. Anyways i am going on a bit of a rant here, but i am sure many techs are more then capable.

I wish that were true, but mistu/chrysler lost a $hit load of $ by their own technicians improperly adjusting the timing belt tensioner. I've seen far too many ppl leave a mechanic after having a timing belt done with improperly set tension, AND also balance shafts out of phase! Take your DSM to somebody that knows these cars, not to your average joe-blow mechanic.....trust me!

i know exactly what you are saying, i agree with you that it may be better to take it someone who knows these engines to be on the safe side. I have seen some hack technicians yet i have seen very amazing ones that can do it all. It would be a shame to see a hack technician take on this job, but take the car to who you trust.

Of course, and make sure they have you covered few months for parts and labor too.
