looking at buying a 95 Talon

Hey guys well ive finally found my dream car that ive wanted for the longest time. A 2g talon, well Its not a tsi but im 17 and that would kill me on insurance anyways. Its 1995 Red talon with 227K ESI (I know its a lot of K but I think for $2000 its a pretty good deal I see most going for 3500 or 4000 with this many, and I can always get a swap done) there asking $2000 its from a dealer. Its a 5spd thank god refuse to buy an auto and I dont care if its not fast. It also has a 2 year powertrain warranty but does not come saftied and etested, They said if I wanted it saftied and etested I was looking at $3000 but im paying in cash so I think I could get it for a bit lower. Anwyays do you guys think its a bad deal for $2000 and are there a lot of problems with this car because I have heard there was. Anyways let me know please.

Don't do it.....your going to regret it. The 2G ESi is nothing more than a sexy neon. It has the same 420A that comes in neons. 5pointOHNO's talon is a much better buy. Just my opinion, but everyone I know that bought a non-turbo DSM regretted it, $hit all the guys that bought a FWD turbo DSM regretted it, my self included lol.

I would listen to dsmonster. my step bro bought a 94 fwd turbo, non saftied or etested, for 2500, hes up to about 5gs and still not done fixing all the problems, finnaly talked some sense into him and now is selling it. he was just like you thought it would be a cool ride, boy was he mistaken.

If the head gasket, timing belt etc are changed you are looking at regular maintence. You should also see if the ball joint recall is done, talk him down as the car may be sexy...$3000 is far too much for an Esi. The turbo awd car is fast however it has it's own problems just check out club dsm canada, most of the guy's cars are in the shop half the time. That is a price for that extra speed and for heaven's sake say away from anything modded you will regret it.

i would definatly wait to get a tsi, you will be way happier, the whole time you have the esi you will be wishing that you had the turbo model, way easier to mod, way more power

talon

please listen to these guys as i had a 94 esi and its way easier to mod a tsi also when i did own my esi i did nothing but sink my money into that car and not to mod it that was just regular upkeep so unless u live at home and dont pay a dime into your household make sure u save money cause yes they are a sexy car but they cost alot to fix and maintain

Go with a TSi you wont regret it.

voltar 08-11-2006 01:16 AM

Its just a waste and you'll definitly regret it. Buy something more practical if finances dont permit a TSi AWD. Dont compromise on something so significant.

VPrime 08-12-2006 09:42 PM

Yeah go with a Tsi (AWD if you can).
I was in the same boat as you and almost got an esi... Lucky for me the guy I bought it from was slow on getting the cert.. So I told him i didnt want it (lost my 100$ deposit) but then found my Tsi AWD the next week and couldnt be happier.
Once you go turbo you can never go back to N/A ;)

Also If you do buy one try and get one that was well maintained, and stock.. if not stock atleast buy it from some one who loves the car more then they should, that way you know all the mods were done right :)

Oh and dont buy the Esi thinking you can just swap the engine to the Tsi because you cant (well not easily) as the motor mounts are all differnt.. plus more other problems.
Atleast with the first gen Esi you still got the 4G63, with the 2nd Gen ESI you only get the 420a (neon engine).. the 420 is still decent, but its just a million times easier starting from a Tsi.
