IMO, eclipses have been the "civics" of the US for quite some time, as they are very abundant down there. Aftermarket toys for the eclipse is abundant. I like them.

DSM's are a great platform, if you keep on top of maintanance. And if it doesn't crankwalk, or if the transfer case doesn't lock up at 150 km/s. They are awesome cars, but very inrelible, maintaning them is generally more costly then modding them. Good luck though.

150 kilometers a second?! I don't think they can go that fast.

It's hard to get a clear message about the crank walk issue. Some people say it's very common, others say that it's just a myth... so you should only listen to people that drive these cars, or call a shop like Magnus and ask them what their opinion is.

i've had the eclipse spyder(convertible) 2k3 for about 3 months now... this car is not about speed (not saying it's slow) i've beat a lot of cars out there, but it's still mostly about looks... a definite chick magnet. If you're into big sound(audio) then don't get the convertible because there's too much work involved to getting the rattling down to minimum.
but this is definitely a great car.

DSMs are awesome cars with amazing potential. You can easily pick up a 1g (1990 - 1994) Turbo AWD for under $5000. There are some minor differences in a few models.

1990 -6/1992 - Came with the 6 bolt engine. Far less likely to crankwalk.
1990 & 1991 - Pop-up headlights
1992 - 1994 - Came with th 7 bolt engine. Still less likely to crankwalk then th 2g (1995 - 1999). Got rid of pop-up headlights.

Myself I own a 1992 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo AWD and IMO they are awesome cars. I've had mine since Nov. 2004 and it's always been a fun car to drive. AWD definately helps with launches, cornering, and makes for great winter fun!!

I have a 97, and i'll be honest I've had my share of problems. As long as you take care of it, do regular maintainence etc you should be fine. No Crankwalking here... but I do have the leaking roof, and water pump problems... :(

Anyone looking into buying a DSM has to be ready to do regular maintenance on it. It's a finicky car but if you know what you're doing you'll end up with an amazing machine, and if it's a 2G it'll be a gorgeous one too. As for Spyder's being a "chick magnet" I'm not so sure about that! lol Girls can drive HOT cars too, not just throw ourselves at guys in hot cars!

Theyre the sweetest eclipse body style, and they are good cars, i havent had major problems with mine, its just how i bought it.
