looking at 1998
 

yzf600r? i am currently looking to buy a 1998 yzf600r. it looks to be in good condition but im waiting for more pics. it has 11k miles on it, and comes with 2 helmets, jacket and gloves. the guy is selling it for 3600 but he will negotiate. wat r yalls opinions on this bike and should i go for it?ohh and wat is the difference between the yzf600r and the r6 or isnt there a difference?

$3600 doesn't sound too bad, depending on the condition of the bike. If it's beat up, look elsewhere. It's nice when someone throws in free gear, but of course it doesn't do you much good if it doesn't fit. Helmets are a tricky thing. They come in different shapes/sizes (on the inside) so it may not be comfortable even if it's the right "size" helmet. Also, they need to be replaced every 3-4 years anyway as the helmet material tends to break down over time. Not to mention that you don't know (for sure) if the helmet has every been dropped. A fall from 4 ft is enough to damage a helmet, although physically it may appear fine.I like the riding style on the 600R. It's a more upright position that makes for a more comfortable ride. As far as differences, yes, the 600R and R6 are in essence two completely different bikes. Although they are both 600cc machines, the R6 is designed with a more substantial amount of power compared to the 600R. I'm sure there are other differences as well in the suspension. It isn't to say the 600R isn't quick or isn't a good bike, but it's simply not a "detuned" R6. Not sure if this is your first bike or not, but if so I think the 600R would be a good choice. It'll be much more forgiving than what a R6 would be. Any Japanese bike is going to hold up pretty well. All the mfgs are known for make dependable bikes. Good luck and happy riding!
