motorcyclists??? Why is it that in Ohio, everyone in a vehicle is permitted to wear a seat-belt, but cyclists can wear sandals, no shirt, shorts, and worst of all, no helmet??? Are they crazy?
People who don't know the real risks of motorcycling think it's no more hazardous than driving a car, and so are liable to jump on a bike practically naked. Don't be fooled into thinking this is safe or good practice, for the most part these are kids who just don't know better and are still in the "invincible" stage. As for the law, elected officials tend to bow to the weight of the largest number of complainers. Bikers who complain against helmet laws are a lot more vocal than people who support helmet laws. I recently saw a post by a biker who insisted that there is no evidence that helmet use saves any lives, but that it is a proven fact that loud pipes save lives. This is the kind of vocal complaint that leads to inconsistent and illogical motorcycle safety regulations.
