what do u think???
what do u think???
hey guyz ive decided to buy a 2000 r6 what do u think heres what the guy posts for the bike : "red and white, clean and straight, stored indoors, cheap to insure, fully stock, red windscreen many extra parts, no reasonable offer refused. 3300 km, $4950 obo." so what do u think should i go for it?? is it worth it for my first bike?
The price is very reasonable... Its the lowest price posted in the trader... plus you get the tank and fairings for free which is a bonus...
Just make sure its not branded... Have fun...

Not for your first bike. It would be like putting a driver with a fresh G1 or G2 in a Porsche with a couple of differences - the Porsche comes with a safety cage all around you, air bags and seat belts. The bike gives you nothing to help protect you from either yourself and others.
As one writer puts it - "recommending 600cc and larger bikes for beginners is like sending children out to play on the freeway, and the results are both predictable and (often) tragic."
Or,
"Starting with one of these machines is like trying to learn to fly in a combat aircraft."
Your better bets would be Kawasaki Ninja 250 or Suzuki 500 (fairing or naked version). They're cheap to buy used, insurance is absolute peanuts on them even for new riders, and they're still a lot of fun to ride. When you're ready to move up, you can usually sell them a year or two later for as much or almost as much as you paid for them.
Most important - they are much more forgiving of the many steering/braking/throttle mistakes that you as a noob WILL be making in your first year of riding.

Always better to gain some experience by riding on a smaller bike where you can jerk the throttle around and not worry as much...
Year 2003
Make SUZUKI
Model GS500E
Price $5,495.00
Mileage 14,787 km
as u can see it is more than an r6 with less milage so if i cant find anything cheaper than that r6 then im probably gonna go for it

The bonus is that you can easily risk going liability-only on that bike, and that will save you even more on your insurance if you think it's worth doing so, and assuming any drops you have are low speed drops not causing any serious damage.
Try to get it certified for around $2,000 if you can. You'll be able to ride it for a year and sell it for the same money next year if you still want to move up.
By the way, if you really do want to spend the money, list price on a brand new Suzuki GS500F (fairing, looks a bit like as SS) is only $6,800.

You can get a new 2006 GS500F for only $1,300 more, and that is the model with plastic fairings.

Actually, my first thought with the R6 is that it is underpriced for the summer market. When I see a bike priced well below the competition I would question why it is so.
Make sure the bike comes with a clean title (not crashed or rebuilt) and that the fairings aren't all scratched up. Also the mileage is super low for a 2000 and the bike may have sat causing other problems.
If all looks clean and the frame is not dented then just make sure it has no liens on it or that it isn't stolen (check history). Beyond all that it's a good deal for an R6.

Price the insurance before you buy anything.

If all you wanted was cheap insurance then I have a '88 YSR 80 that costs me $150 / yr complete on insurance. It'll do 100km/hr and can get you from A to B at over 60mpg gasoline. It's a better buy then any GS500 and cost 1/3rd the price.
* N.B. YSR not for sale, just being cited for example.
