SR20 Swap?

how much does an SR20 swap cost? if it cost too much i will just go kat.

J camel 04-09-2006 03:48 PM

It depends. Are you going to do the swap yourself? Or get a shop to do it for you?

Sunny_TK 04-09-2006 07:33 PM

i was planning on getting a shop to do it for me.

oh and how long would it take approximatly

newbieracer 04-09-2006 08:46 PM

you will need to budget around $5000 for it, the motor about $2500-5000 for the motor and another $1500 for the instal and then about another $1000 for other parts.

And depending how hard they work on it and who is doing it, 2 days to a week.

Sunny_TK 04-09-2006 10:41 PM

wow, pretty pricey! what parts would i need other than engine, tranny, ecu, and guages?

thanks! :)

newbieracer 04-10-2006 05:12 PM

Intercooler and misc parts, the wireing is expencive since you need to move the ecu to the other side and also the bottom and top harnesses dont mesh.

Btw, Dont think of the Kat as a budget choice, because it will end up blowing your motor

My friend had a SR20DET GTIR swapped in his 02 sentra gxe. He got the motor for like $2250 plus $1100 for the transmission, $1250 install, and $1150 for extra parts (such as new motor mounts, transmission mounts, harness, wiring, misc.). He was lucky enough however to get a JDM front clip with his motor thrown in for free which reduced his costs not only cause it was free but because he was able to resell some stuff.

Either way your looking at $4500-$5000 for the motor, transmission, ecu, harness, and any other misc. expense or $6000-$7000 for everything plus install.

Sunny_TK 04-11-2006 12:03 AM

wow thanks, i didnt know the whole setup could cost that much!

Join s o n 2 4 0 s x . c a (I think your a member already, I cant remember).
Buy a engine and guys on that club will gladly help you install it. Its actually one of the easiest swaps you'll ever do. Don't let anyone tell yo otherwise. If you need help with anything ask me or someone on s o n 2 4 0 .

NiTeRiDeR 04-11-2006 04:44 PM

Definately easier for the person doing the swap if you have the front clip.
Buy from Varun (on SON), and I'm sure he will find someone to install it for you.

Sunny_TK 04-11-2006 05:25 PM

i am already a member of ******, but i would do a swap myself (with help) if i could but i dont have a shop or engine stands of any sort or any electrical skills.

newbieracer 04-12-2006 08:40 PM

you need a one person garage, Princess auto for stands and hoists and make a friend who is good with wiring, Just remember, with motors, whatever you do dont take short cuts, they cost in the end.

What car are you doing the SR20 swap into? 240sx? Sentra? Miata? Locost? They fit into all sorts of cars...

Also known as an SR20DET... it's obvious that all those parts come with it... oh wait, you didn't include gaskets. Are we to understand that this engine is without gaskest? Uh oh.

JordonRev 07-14-2006 02:22 AM

thats for the red top

martiniracing 01-16-2007 12:14 PM

i'll put the motor in for ya and get it running for $1200 if you have all the parts ready to go

The redtop dosn't come with Block, Throttle body or fuel rail. The blacktop does..You want the blacktop.

true_werd 02-27-2007 08:12 PM

an sr20det swap is possibly the easiest swap there is. It uses the stock mounts, although you may want to replace them anyways(depending on age, kms). The wiring harness plugs into the the stock 240 wiring harness, and it can use the stock 240 drive shaft. Get a couple of buddies that have an idea of what they are doing and do it yourself, save yourself alot of money.
