Turbo the KA or swap it?
Just as the title says. Should I throw a turbo on my KA or swap it for an RB20DET, SR20DET, or CA18DET?
RB20 might be a tight squeeze. CA18 wont satisfy you. SR20 is the easiest, and has the most potential for ur car
how much power you looking to push????? RB 20 is good but really tight squeeze, you almost literally need to shoe horn it in. sr is your best bet you can have a 400hp RELIABLE motor with that.
agreed that the sr is probably the best bet. i personally like the sr because its easy to work on and aftermarket support is very good. I would definately choose a K over an sr though due to the torque outcomes.

Where do you get your crack from? I want IN!! |
remember, the KA didnt come turbo from the factory, so if you do turbo it, it will decrease the life and reliablility of the KA. But on the other hand, the SR comes turbo, and is the most reliable turbo engine out there....so SR is the best way to go...most parts available in Toronto too etc....(compared to CA and RB)

you would be leaning more towards the sr, but you should understand the engines boundaries so you know far you can go with each so you can reach your final goals. basically once you have a taste for speed you will want more and if the engine limits you, before having to build or something along those lines you best have made the best engine choice from the begining.

is the CA18DET the 180sx motor?

Swap it to SR20
the sr20's are nice, my buddy has it in his 240, its been running solid so far and he says he cant go back to non turbo!
turbo the ka, more torque, or go rb26, y follow everyone else?
Personally I'd spend the extra cash and go RB26DETT.

Go the RB25DET instead the RB26DET. Cheaper easier fewer problems and just as fast!
Build and boost the ka and u will make great numbers just do it right
ka's can have 700whp potential with more torque!
KA-T FTW! |
have you evaluated the condition of your KA?
KM's? Compression #'s? front rear main seals leaking yet? how is you KA's clutch, stock - ready to die? |
I agree about the SR20 already being turbo, and therefore built to handle a turbo, whereas the KA isn't. And the SR wouldn't be such a fiend on gas compared the RB motors
Sorry, the bigger RB motors
KA it
lol now why would u say a ca18 wouldnt satisfy.... im rather happy with myne and dont plan on going to the sr ever..... its like the b16 of nissan everybody wants one plllzz, ca parts are easy to come by , the motor is self is less expensive, and the bottom is is cast iron , lil heavier but bulletproof....
Wat are you doing with the car, drifting... cuz if you are go Ka. Cast iron head. Built with a stock turbo or not the engine is a tank. Learn to use the Ka and do it right like the other guy said.
C'mon its litterally a truck engine. Throw some duelys on the back of the 240 and ur good to go. |
Shoe-Horn in a SR20
Ka is the funnest! it will always be different then the other guys.
