99 Honda Odyssey - key won't turn?
 

OK - before you tell me to turn the wheel back and forth, wiggle the key, etc., been there done that. Tried all 3 keys we have. Even jacked the van up to take pressure off the steering column. Free'd the shift to put it in neutral, then back in park. Nothing seems to free the key up.































It seems to me it's likely a stuck tumbler or worn assembly. So, anyone encountered similar, and or have any suggestions? Ideas to free a sticky tumbler? No, we have not had any problems with the key sticking or difficulty turning the key before...































Basically, I'm at a loss, and short of taking it to a dealership to have them fix it, I'm looking for suggestions.

I've had this happen before. It was the steering wheel lock when the car was parked on a hill at a strange angle. It eventually came free by force. Not that I recommend that method.































Try some penetrating oil or 3 in 1 oil. It might free things up a little. Just put a little on the key and slide it into the lock. Wiggle it and it should the oil around. Give it a chance to soak in and then try it again after 10 minutes.































In cold weather locks can freeze up. Try a hair dryer. Good luck!

We run into this quite frequently. If you bought the car preowned, do this - spray a little wd40 (Very Little) enough to cover the key lightly and the take the key and work it into the ignition. Remove it and wipe it on a clean paper towel. If it is black the ignition is filled with graphite and is locked up - VERY common Problem.































If it is not filled with graphite then the cylinder will have to be replaced as the Tumblers are actually very thin flat brass wafers and are very prone to pressure from excessive weight on the keys as well as other problems.
