Honda's are very reliable and their engines live a long time by tradition. All you have to do is to make sure it is looked at it by a mechanic you trust regularly. My mechanic said he saw a civic with nearly 300,000 miles on it and it looked and ran great. The secret, he says, is to do proper preventive maintenance.

I haven't had any experience with Pilots. However, I had a 1997 Prelude that I put 175,000 miles on it and it ran great with no issues whatsoever. I maintained the car as Honda suggested. I had to put my first set of brakes on at 130,000 and the clutch was still great. I only got rid of it because I wanted a car with more horsepower. I now wish I would have kept that car because it was such a great automobile.

Honda engine runs forever as long as you have oil change around 6000km. My expereience with 1 civil and 2 accords each over 230,000km, still run smooth and no oil burn.
