change your head gasket cast iron block aluminum head it wears out the head gasket prematurely..look into it...also look into another car, 2.2 are as fast as a lead brick

check your 02, replace possibley. k&n and tornado :fing02:

last two were jokes... :veryhappy

The engine doesn't breathe or rev high.... as I recall, the exhaust header and entire exhaust system was pretty small, so that's what I would do first.

Ok, now is this new, or has it always been like that? What you're describing sounds like a bad catalytic convertor.

I guess the only thing that comes to mind is, is it an automatic?

Long_John 03-27-2006 11:36 PM

Probably just needs a basic tune up...spark plugs and wires, distributor cap and rotor, fuel and air filter.

Well, if youre referring to slow, the real issue is its a sunfire. That would cover the slow concern..
Bad gas mileage might be from him gassing it to be faster

drifter420 04-06-2006 08:27 PM

Might help if there's more info... other then its slow and bad on gas mileage.. thats like me making a new post saying "I WON!!" and leaving as that.. What kinda symptoms does it have?

Don't expect those engine to win you races in stock form if thats wat you're asking..

Any SES light? Does it stumble.. hesitate??
Run hotter?<-- which will prove Rabbitsman theory on CAT clogged
smell of gas anywhere? ( leakin fuel line or tank )
the list goes on.. get or borrow a scantool

I second that. You can get one at the junkyard for about $600-1200 depending on condition and weater it's an L36(N/a) or an L67(Supercharged). The swap would prably cost you around $1,200-2,500 in labour. But at least you'd have a good sleeper and a reliable daily driver. Hel lyou could even get a Cartuning Turbo and intercooler and mods and have it run 10's... but then again.... I'd just get rid of the sunflower.

2.5SPECV 05-16-2006 04:09 PM

yeah i would second the l67 motor swap, car would fly but you would still have the gas milage issue.

fenwick_GTX 12-15-2006 01:41 PM

I would do the L67. I know a guy who will swap it for $500 + any material charges. I'm doing that in my Sunfire I think it's the best bang for the buck.
