Engine Swap Help

hey guys,

This question is from my brother. He would like to know what engines would be easy to put into a 2002 Sunfire 2.2L 4door. What would be the best bang for the buck. He is looking to spend 3000-3500$ for the swap.

Thanks for the help.

An ecotec 4 cyl can be a potent choice, but the swap is electronically challenging. Another common swap is a 3400 v-6.

I believe a 3800 either n/a or s/c is not a good choice for a J-body. The platform is just not 'right' for that kind of ooomph! But that's just me. :dunno:

3800 SC'd is your best choice.

L67.

Or if you really want to go fast go with an L36 (N/A 3800) and put a cartuning turbo kit on it :)

the engines are floating all over the place i am sure you could source one without even trying. So hes not going to attempt this himself?

No offence meant, but at 17 with little car knowledge, he doesn't want, need or have the ability to operate a 3800 s/c j-body. Would you let him cut your grass with a lawn mower powered by a small block v-8?

He should get some experience in first and then decide how he is able to modify something that will suit his needs. BTW, Playstation is NOT experience.

Spending a couple of years cruising in beaters and saving his money will pay off in the long run. He'll be able to step into a nice ride, not kill himself or someone else with an overpowered mangled piece of tin.

I have heard that Jbodys swap in a L67, the blocks are cheap and they were voted the top 10 best motors of the last 100 years.

I have a 00 Grand Prix GT and I have an L36. Going to turbo it with a ZZP kit. You should join a Grand Prix car forum in your local area and check out the classified advertisements there. I saw 3-4 on my car club alone with low milage.
