Radio world is fine but with the dollar where it is you should look south. Uniden makes a very solid receiver I have had many, go to the site and look around they ship directly to Canada without problems plus thier prices are much lower than here so even with the shipping costs your still doing ok.

Do some research before you buy and figure out what you want to listen to first, Trunked, Digital, etc.

That all depends on you and how much enjoyment you will get out of it. I have had several units over the years and for me, yes most defiantly worth the cash put out on them. It’s a hobby and nothing more, buy something low end if you’re not sure to see if the novelty wears off.
