Question SS hood....good price

alright fbodymotorsports has a carbon fiber SS hood for 5oo bucks........is that a good......i dont have the link right now cause im at school and i dont like apples on the internet so i didnt get it but i wanted to see some pictures of painted carbon fiber... i dont want to leave it that color hepl me out guys and let me know what you think of the price and some pictures of painted carbon fiber hoods

That one? Thats not carbon fiber.. Its fiberglass... But yeah 500 is a good price for a ss hood..

Every shop is going to be different when it comes to pricing. You could pay anywhere from $250-$500 before it's ready to go on your car. That also depends on whether the hood is flat and not high in the corners,......if it needs to be "worked" in order to make it fit right, it could run as high as $1000 to fix it prep it and paint it.

RK Sport's fiberglass SS hood right now is $535.00, but unless you know someone personally that will spray it for you at a good price.......you're gonna be into it for at least a Grand before it's on your car. If you figure 500 bucks for the hood + $15 for the box, + $125 for shipping, and then paint.....your talking an average of 400 bucks.

If you want a Fiberglass SS hood that's ready to paint right out of the box,.....buy a Glass-Tek hood. It's $540.00 for a 98+ Camaro Bolt-on SS hood, and I will back their products 100% and tell you from experience, the extra 40 bucks is well worth it.

"DO NOT DO WHAT I DID".......and that's try to save a few bucks, it's not worth it. Buy a good one from the get-go. If you can afford it, buy one from SLP. It will cost you $999.95 but it's made from a sheet molded compound (SMC) that's much stronger than fiberglass.

And you can guarantee it will be a perfect fit on your car, unlike just about every aftermarket hood that seems to not have enough curve front to back- as in high in the corners.

Both hoods I have had are this way- So either be willing to accept a little flaw or spend the $$ on a quality hood.

But I would expect to spend $500 on prep/paint/fitment, maybe cheaper if you know the guy and he will do it 'under the table' for you.

im actaully going to start saving starting tommara when i get my paycheck for this because i can deal with not having rims but i want a new hood

No problem ....and I hope you payed attention to what we were saying bud. I'd hate for you to have to go through what we did just to try and save a few bucks. You can either pay more "NOW".......or end up paying more "LATER".

Like ForceFedZ said, if you plan on buying an aftermarket fiberglass hood, expect the corners to be high and possibly need more prep work. If you do get one, I highly recommend getting it from Glasstek.com, at least with theirs you won't have the worry about extra prep work. They come ready to scuff an shoot, and they're only $540.00!

I have it the worst. I want one of the most poorly made hoods on the market. It's one of the coolest, but worst made . So it's gunna cost me a fortune just to fix it.

That's very similar to how my hood fit when we first started. The only difference was, right along the edge of the hood where it meets the driver's fender, it was a 1/2 in too low at the same time it was high in all 4 corners.

Have you tried screwing in the rubber hood stops down in front. I know that lowered mine a good 1/4 inch alone. But as far as the front corners go, my guy added about a 1/2 inch of fiberglass under the front corner of the hood, then shaved a 1/2 inch off the top surface to give it that curve it needs to follow the fender.

That's one of the only ways I know of to get the fronts down. As far as the rear corners go, those are easy to lower. You just have to relief cut the mounting area where your hood bolts to the hinges. I have some example pics in that thread I posted "Test Fitting SS Hood". If anyone is interested in doing something like this to their fiberglass hood, let me know and I'll try to walk you through it.

If I were you I would do rims first.. People seem to notice different rims more than a different hood.. Believe me, Thats the route I went..

Go with whatever makes you happiest first. I did mine all at once basically, but my first stop was hood.

not only that, its one of the most expensive hoods, also. So its going to cost you 2 fortunes: one to buy it, then to fit/fix it, lol. That's one of my favorite hoods, also. If I ever had a 98+, that's the hood I'd like to get, but wouldn't sheerly because of the quality problems.

yeah i dunno my dad is getting pissed at me ause i keep flipping from ground effects to rims to the hood ..... he wants me to get the gfx first but i want the rims more then that, im thinking rims and hood i cvan save for the hood over winter or something or after the summer i will have the cash
