Tripometer

A few weeks after I bought my car, the tripometer stopped working. It is misaligned (i think). All of the numbers are jumbled. I think it just needs to be re-aligned. Is there an easy way to fix this or do I have to get a new cluster?

that means the odomoter was probably rolled back, you need to replace the cluster (they missalign when you try and roll it back)

No... when i bought it, it worked fine for about a month of driving. Then I went to reset it (which i had done many times before) and the numbers went out of alignment. Then, i pushed it again and they went back to normal, but wont move.

ok they are like they are switching? you have a bad gear, replace the whole thing it's a ton cheaper than a repair (most places charge an arm and both legs to do any repair as they have to be federally licensed to work on speedos)

Won't really do any good, cause i would just have to pay to get the odometer changed to my actual miles (OCD). What is involved in fixing it?

Well I wouldn't personally recommend this as its illegal, but I'm just going to throw it out there- why not just get a cluster off ebay that is close to your mileage and put it in the car and call it good. Yeah its technically illegal, but if its close and keeping up with the miles its better than an odometer that doesn't work at all..

actually it's fine as long as you put a notation on the car (that's what dealerships and mechanics do daily I've sold a few thousand)

the engine/car odometer itself is working fine. The TRIP odometer isn't. So, i really don't want to mess with the engine/car odometer. It would be easier for me to just try to fix the tripodometer somehow rather than replace the whole thing and deal with having to keep track of the miles or having the miles changed.

you can't fix it without taking the odometer apart, they are connected. replace the whole thing and note mileage when replaced

Replacing the whole thing would be easier than taking it apart and trying to to fix it. Last I checked gauge clusters were going for under $100. Since there is one clip to connect them in the back its a lot easier to swap out a cluster than take one out and diassemble it.

yeah i just had a cluster repaired last week for an 06 chevy 3/4 duramax and it was way spendy. gigantic waste of money.

replace it if possible. less hassle and cheaper
