Ok I have a one car garage at my condo. My Camaro is going to sit in it all winter and only come out on nice days during the summer from now on. But here in the frozen tundra it really get's cold and I can't stand to work on my car while freezing so I need to buy a heater.
I honestly don't think I'll be living here more than another year or two at the most so I don't want anything perment. I would just like to get a portable heater to heat up the garage.
Ok here's the type my brother had when he lived in an apt with a one car garage.
It uses kerosene as it's fuel.

Is this one worth the extra money over the next one? Basicly do I need the extra BTU's or will it heat the air up to fast so the car will still be freezing?

Then what about something like this? (I can see this taking longer to heat the garage up but doing a better job of keeping it at the temprature I want)

I have the 1st one at my work. If its in a single car garage, thats too much. You cant stand anywhere near the front of that thing, or point it towards anything, it'll burn it or melt it.
The less powerful torpedo might work, and that 3rd one is made for an actual shop. Its really up to you. But put it this way, at Kerosene being 2.99/gal and those torpedos burn it pretty quick, might just want to go with the electric and save the time / money / fumes lol.

just get a kerosene heater maybe like 60,000 BTU. That's what I have in my 2.5 car garage along with a 40 or 50k also, but it does plenty good as long as the garage is insulated good. For a 1 car garage that's all you need.

we have a 250,000 BTU heater out of a factory, my dad found somehow and then mounted it and did a stack through the roof. in the winter time, this thing makes the garage hotter than the house. we can paint in when its below 0 outside with no worries.
i always hear how dangerous the torpedo heaters are but hmmm... idk.
you will love a heater, but idk what would work out best since you want it to be pretty much portable. ours doesnt move obviously...

Ohhhh... My brother had that 2nd heater you posted to heat his garage. Worked fine ... It's a beast though ... It seems almost scary to just leave something like that on though. For constant temp, I'd want to say the 3rd one.

Matt I like yours the best but like I said I don't plan on staying in my condo for to much longer so I don't want to do anything permiment. When we have a large enough downpayment and buy a house then I'll go all out on my garage but I don't want to waste the money right now.
Like I said my brother had the torpedo(sp) style one, it would heat the garage up instantly but I see that more of a downfall. I'd rather it take longer and keep the garage at a good temp.
I guess right now I'd just like to know how well the third one listed would work as I've never used an electric one before.

Hey chad....when you do decide to get a house and all that. Give me a call. We'll put in a furnace in and I wont charge you as much as a company would. Or we can work something else out

hehe, youll have to become my pops friend. no one has driven it besides him, and ive driven it multiple times, but thats about it.lol. it sits back there for days on endm although im coaxing him into taking the 327 out and putting his 408 back in with a 6 speed.hehe

I used an electric space heater at my parents (3 car garage) and it worked decent (needed 2 for the large space really) and I pulled the motor out of my monte when it was 15 below outside

I use both a torpedo and a propane convection heater in my shop. The torpedo works good for heating up quick and then the propane to maintain the heat. The only thing I don't like about the torpedo's is the noise. But its usually only on for a short time too. I personally don't like working above 55-60* anyway so I don't use that much fuel trying to keep warm.
If you are only going to be out there short periods of time- (under two hours) I would go with a torpedo. It warms up quick and thats what you want if you are typically short time stuff. If its more casual, then maybe the electric would be better since it will maintain a constant temp once it gets up there.
