new sub setup or a cam.....

ok well ive been planning on doing a cam swap lately, however im starting to become worried that ill spin a cam bearing a few miles after the swap and be screwed for the whole summer. if i did the cam, it would cost around 800 bucks, sound wicked and be a nice increase in power. but i have the opportunity to get ****** over pretty big at the same time.

orrrrrr. i can do a new sub setup for the summer time seeing as i like blasting my tunes while driving. i would be getting rid of my 12" polk momos and going with a single 18" Elemental Designs sub in the t-top well. it would be huge, take up tons of space and blast like ghetto. waht u guys think.

I can't imagine an 18" sub actually sounding good.

It's a hard choice though, you're a lot like me. You want a car that's fast, looks good, sounds good, and is fun to drive. Sucks because it costs a lot to do it.

mhmmm. the sub would sound very nice, cost around 300 to do with no modifications other than building a new box and losing t-top space in the back, then again no chance of blowing anything. maybe i should just sit on the money and enjoy the spray.lol. i really havent even gotten the thing working how it should. the bottle is still around 600 psi. damn thats like a 40 shot and it moves!!!haha

youre dumb. number one, why the hell are you so certain would you spin the cam bearings? is your car that ******? number two, CAM DUMBASS. when you listen to music, is there bass? then its fine. my weak *** 10" gives more than enough. im sure yours is fine. move on to something more enjoyable.

caleb, have you not read any of the thousands of horror stories people have with a cam swap. your putting foreign parts in something thats been together for 10 years and 100k miles. it SHOULD work together, but just like the human body, anything that goes inside of it that is different, takes a while to get used to and theres a decent chance that somebody bad can happen and the old and new cannot work together like they SHOULD.

and you guys havent heard a good system. lol. my 12s are some of the loudest **** at school but thats cause everyones a dumbass cheap ****.lol i wanted 2 15s, but somebody cough*greg*cough, doesnt wana sell them anymore.lol

Personally I think and 18 inch sub would sound like crap, and it would shake the hell out of everything. I say cam.

Cam! Make sure to use A LOT of assembly lube on the cam journals and be extra careful during the install not to bump the bearings with a lobe. I have heard/read about some lt1 cam swap horror stories, The most probable cause for thier problems was user error.

If you do the cam, are you planning on changing the valvesprings, pushrods, and rockers? What cam are you planning on doing?
PM SStrokerAce (Brett Baur) on Camaross.com about the best cam for your combo. (http://web.camaross.com/forums/member.php?u=32790)

Your on a performance website, of course everyone is going to say cam. And I agree. But mostly due to the fact that you'll outgrow your liking of subs quite quickly, I know this from experience, I have a $2k system in my car that I dont even turn on these days, I like the sound of the motor better

As per what you said about it being foreign and having problems... well your right. Adding a cam is likely to give you about 1/4th increase in chance of things going wrong. But, when you did it I would save up the money and do it correctly, replace everything while your in there, hot tank the block, new rings, timing chain, rear main seals, rods, springs, lifters, crank shaft, etc etc. In the end it'll cost you about 2 grand, and you'll have a near new motor. Not to mention i'll bet you'll find quite alot of things that need to be fixed while your in there.

Do you want to sound like a ricer, with his friggin' body panels vibrating? Then do subs.

If you want to go a bit faster and get a nice kick, do a mild cam. And I mean mild cam. You do not want to deal with the nightmare of getting a wild cam tuned.

Edit: And as Phate said, you really want to freshen up the motor when you're doing a cam... you're going to be in there anyways, might as well.
