When you download music from the computer and burn it onto a disk. The cd player will be able to read almost any format of music you use on the disk. With mp3's you can burn about 200 songs on one disk and can play them without having to change out the disk as often. Great feature if you get music from your computer, but if you don't the cd player will work like any other.
