OBD2 problem

I hve a 1999 F150 6cyl. I have a good scan tool not a cheapy and i cant get it to read anything on my truck ...it works fine on everyonther vehicle. One odd thing i have noticed is that the backlight does not even come on when connected to the ford but it does with both my gm and toyota vehicles...Has anyone had problems like this or does anyone know how to solve it?

Try and use another reader or scan tool. If it doesn't work.. then it's possible your connector. Does it support all the sensors on your truck? OR does it see no connection?

I think drifter420 has the right idea. If it happens to be the connector then you will need a wiring diagram. Also a quick check may to turn the key on the on position and use a test light on the connector to see if you have power. I have never seen a problem with service connectors, but you never know.
Good luck and let us know the outcome.

does anyone know which is supposed to have power in the 16pin connector. It comes up with "unable to connect"

I found a broken wire on 12+ in pin 16. As soon as i fixed that i no longer have a problem..Thanks for you help guys. Its funny how a battery powered scanner still needs to have the power from the vehicle to scan.

Good stuff.. glad it wasn't anything major or PITA.. was that full time or part time 12+V ?? Maybe it's to switch a relay to start reading??
