Just Installed a new clutch but its slipping!
Hey guys. I just installed an Exedy Stage 2 clutch in my friend's b16a turbo hatch. Its slipping a lot, especially in first gear, when engaging the clutch to start moving. Its sort of like skipping, and the car bounces a little as I release the pedal in 1st. Ive installed any clutches before, and i know they have to be broken in to work fine, but its never been like this. Has anyone ever had a clutch do this right after the install? Is there smthn wrong with the clutch, or does it just need a few days of driving?

Here some general reference photo's for you and those that have no idea what a clutch is.
I feel you pain by the way, I had a similar problem with my full face kevlar disc when I installed it. Turns out that it needed to broken in softly.

#1 check to see if the slave cylinder/master is leaking
#2 check to see if the clutch is getting full release/engagement.

Its full engaging/disengaging, and no, the clutch has not been broken in yet. I know the clutch will not work the best till its broken in, but the way it's running now is sort of ridiculus. The clutch doesnt really slip, it just skips, and makes the car shake and bounce during engagement. as if there are sectors on the flywheel that are frictionless. I thought about it, and there are only 2 things that it could be. Either it needs to be broken in. Or the flywheel needed to be machined, which the owner of the car didnt feel like getting done. Anyone agree/disagree?

I got a bully stg 4 in my gsr and it does the same thing when letting off because of the design, these kind of clutches are usually instant engagement so your best bet is to rev it up and just let off instead of sort of riding it

if its chattering and skipping there is oil on the disc or the flywheel needed to be machined

i found this on an exedy supplier's site, quoting on the clutch i installed
".....As with any cerametallic clutch system, some compromise of startup drivability should be expected as compared to a stock clutch (i.e. chatter on light throttle, low rpm startup). This characteristic is considered generally acceptable in modified performance cars."
so i guess the chatter is somewhat normal then. it should get better after break in. I should have just gotten the flywheel machined. Too bad there were no machineshops open by the time I got the tranny off the car, which was about 2 am, last nite
btw, the car i installed the clutch on is fast as hell... there's nutn like boost

What are you new? If the surface of the flywheel is heat scored, it needs to be machined or the clutch will slip, no matter oem or aftermarket.
Yes the clutch will chatter a bit because it is different material used, kevlar, ceramic, copper what ever. Depending if it is sprung/ or unsprung. 3 puck or 4 puck it WILL chatter if the revs are not high enough.
I have used lots of different types of clutchs and yes you will start to have a bit of chatter the stronger clamping force you get, but the clutch should NEVER slip...

I know the flywheel has to be resurfaced when u swap the clutch, but oh well, its my buddy's car, and his fault, cuz he wanted to drive it home last night, and didnt wanna wait till today to take the flywheel to a shop.. The clutch is a sprung, 3 puck. The clutch works fine now, It just chatters with low revs.
