Does anyone have any advice on how to remove the haze from plastic head lamp housings?

You could start by sanding it down. If it is pitted you need something more aggressive to start but if it is just hazy, wet sand it with 2000 grit sand paper and and then polish it with Meguiar's PlastX.

Some people have just used aluminum polish without the sanding.

I wetsand; start with 800, then 1000, then 2000...Then once all pitting and other defects are out use a good aluminium polish( eg mothers) and they'll look new.

Before you start - make sure you determine wether the haze is in the inside or outside of the lamp.

Take your fingernail and run it over the hazed area - if you feel the roughness, or notice a difference - proceed...otherwise, you may have to disassemble the headlamp.

Just curious - has anyone tried CLR? (just saw the commercial on TV )

I have not tried CLR.

I own a Dodge Intrepid and they are known for those hazy headlights. What I did was use different grits of sand paper and water to take that layer off and then I used 3M plastic polish cleaner. While I was applying the polish, I used a buffer.

If I find out what I used, I will let you know.

Just remembered - with all the pressure of sanding and buffing - you might want to grab some silicone and go over the seal while the headlights are off the car.

Also - when sanding - start at 400 grit moving to 2000 wet

i heard this stuff "yellows" after a month, there was some guy on an australian board who sanded, then clear coated his skyliine headlights so it wouldn't happen again.

once you do it you have to keep doing it..so ive been told.. ive never had any problems with my jdm glass headlights
