1983 Rabbit GTI- $750.00

Here's the scoop on this Wabbit. I bought it about 10 years ago for next to nothing locally here in Vancouver. THe engine had spun a bearing and had been sitting for a few years. It is a US car, California I'm guessing, and has a very low 86,000 miles on it (145K Km or so). I towed the car and had the engine fully rebuilt, top and bottom. Once I put it together, I found that the fuel distributor was stuck, so either the car didn't run at all, or it idled at 2500 RPM. THat was about 9 years ago. Then kids came, life continued, and the poor GTI has been sitting here. I started it about 6 years ago right after I bought a house, and it ran as previously described.

Good, bad and ugly:
As I said, the car has a low low 86,000 miles on it. 3 owners I'm guessing. Zero rust, save for a small area around the back window which has only gotten a bit bigger in the time that I've had it, and a dent on one front fender where I dropped a wrench on it (doh!). 5 speed, tranny and clutch are good, although the clutch cable has seized in the last 10 years. I think I put a new clutch in when I changed the engine. Low profile tires in good shape along with the mags. Moonroof installed, no leaks. The kid that spun the bearing had installed a Neuspeed antisway kit under the hood, and had messed with the light wiring, that's since been reconnected to stock. Interior- good, but very mildewy and musty. Seat cloth has separated in a few places. Headliner very saggy, I got the car that way. Engine- fully rebuilt, has maybe 5Km on it since it was rebuilt. Engine in excellent shape obviously, save for the fuel system. Alternator needs replacing, alternator light comes on on occasion. I don't think I have the keys for the car, I'll check, I do for the gas cap. Paint is in decent shape for the age, but I'd repaint. Oh, it's black. No accidents declared as far as I know. Title is clear, and can be transferred with no issues.

Bottom line is, this car would make for a great ground up restoration for a vintage plate ready car, or take the engine out of this one and drop it into an existing car.

Email me at curtpalme@shaw.ca or call at (604) 514-1751. Car will have to be towed of course. Price is firm, I might actually dive into this car next year...

OK, if the car can't come to you, you move to the car. It's nice here this time of year. As us west of the Rockies would say: Get outta Hamilton!
