The Rodeo Drive Committee, in association with the Southwest Region of the Ferrari Club of America, presented the 9th annual Concours D’Elegance on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, creating another memorable Father’s Day classic. The Concours featured approximately 120 exotic, custom and classic cars, with a combined value of more than $75 million. Handpicked vintage Ferraris, notable Petersen and Nethercutt museum pieces, along with dozens of other special-interest and vintage cars were brought together to create an exciting display of automotive art and enthusiast dream material.

As is the custom for this annual Father’s Day event, all of this vehicular splendor was displayed free of charge along the world- renowned Rodeo Drive, amidst the elegant shops offering wares from some of the most famous names in fashion and luxury goods. One block, “Concorso Ferrari,” celebrated the design and performance of the Ferrari marque, while a second block, “Rue des Classiques” featured everything from exotic classic cars to rare examples of Detroit’s finest.

Some of the “Classique” auto highlights included a 1929 Stutz M Speedster, the Round Door Rolls, one of the six original Cobra Daytona Coupes, and a couple of gorgeous Mopars, as well as a small selection of some turn-of-the-century motorbikes that make you shudder when you hear they can achieve highway speeds. Concorso Ferrari was even
stronger with Steve McQueen’s brown Ferrari Lusso, the Ferrari 250 GT Boano, an immaculate TdF, and Bruce Meyer’s SWB and 625 TR along with all four modern Ferrari supercars fanned out at the Santa Monica end of the street

Although the show lacked a bit of the glamour and star power of previous years it was still a fantastic event. Not as many cars as in past years either, but those that showed were exemplary. Other concours may attract similar levels of quality offerings, but adding in the panache of Beverly Hills and the fact that many of the shops offer free refreshments inside their wide-open doors, and you can see why this show stands out in many enthusiasts’ minds. I can’t wait to see what the organizers have planned for the 10th annual Concours on Rodeo in 2007.
