engine ticking noise?

Does anyone have a loud ticking noise coming from the engine? I usually hear it when I turn off my car and I'm standing outside of it.

u gotta b more specific, could b just ur engine cooling, that manifold does get really hot.

R0N 10-24-2007 10:32 PM

I've asked around and people say its normal but I've never heard other cars sound that loud when it cools.

That tick can be rather audible in some cars, otherwise I dunno...

I understand that metal expands and contracts but this engine is louder than a mofo when its cooling down...maybe it needs some more coolant

dont worry about it unless it ticks while the engine is off... it's probably just the metal parts cooling. all cars are different. some are louder than others

more coolant wouldnt do anything when the engine is off.. if it's over heating, your temp gauge would be up.

if anything, let the car run for a minute after youve parked, or install a turbo timer. give it time to cooldown gradually

Lots of cars tick after you turn off the engine,

man your in canada right if you have a engine at over 500C when it stops making heat and its 10 below out its gunna want to contract pretty fast making the metal contract faster then normal, thats what that noise is

JDL_Kams 08-23-2008 04:43 PM

I agree with tegra2g

all turbo vehicals do this....its the different metals cooling at different rates makes the ticking sounds....thats why it is recommended (but usally not done) to let you turbo car idle for a few min. after driving it...it lets the motor come to a normal operating temp and lets the components last longer and not get weaker......for any of you who know what flash cooling is in medal work you do it to much steal can become very brittle.
